Unable to install the printer driver while connected via USB on a Windows 10 PC

Description
If you connect the printer to the computer using a USB cable prior to installing the printer driver, the printer driver will not install.
Solution
To correct this phenomenon, follow these steps:
Disconnect the USB cable between the PC and printer (remove the USB cable).
Delete the device "CanonXXX series" from "Devices and Printers."
Run the printer driver installer again.
Once the printer driver has been installed, reconnect the USB cable to the printer and PC.
