Instructions to transport or store the printer for an extended period

Solution

Follow the instructions below for transporting / storing the printer:

When relocating the printer or storing the printer for a long period of time, pack the printer using the original packing materials. If you do not have the original packing materials, pack the printer carefully using protective material and place inside a sturdy box.

Packing the printer

  1. Turn the printer off using the ON or ON/OFF button.

Note: Do not remove the ink tanks or print head; or ink cartridges (dependent on your model printer).

  2. Ensure that the printer is powered off.

    IMPORTANT:
    1) Do not unplug the printer while any of the lights are flashing. To avoid print quality issues after the printer is powered back on, the print head must return to home position to cap properly.
    2) For fax models, the printer will not power off if there is a document stored in memory. Print or delete all documents from memory prior to powering off the printer. If the power cord is disconnected prior to printing documents stored in memory, they will be deleted.

  3. Remove paper and trays as applicable.
      • If your printer has a rear paper tray, remove paper from the tray and then retract it.
      • Retract all other paper trays (front and back, dependent on the model printer).
      • For models with a paper cassette, remove paper from the cassette. It is not necessary to remove the paper cassette.
      • For models with removable paper trays, the paper output tray and paper rest should be removed.

  4. Disconnect the printer cable from the computer and from the printer (if applicable to your model), and then disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  5. Secure the printer with adhesive tape, and then pack it in a plastic bag.
      • Some printer models have a scanning lock switch. If it does, set the switch to the lock position. Remember to unlock the switch before powering it back on.

      • If you plan on shipping the printer, it is recommended to tape down the scanning cover.
      • If your printer has a card slot with a cover, tape it closed (if applicable).

  6. Attach protective material to sides of the printer when packing the printer.

Note: If possible, use the original packing materials.

  7. Whether you are storing or shipping the printer, orient it so that it lays flat just as if it were when sitting on top of the table.

IMPORTANT: Do not lay the printer on its side or back. Used ink is accumulated in the printer and can leak if the printer is not laid down properly.

Shipping the printer

Before shipping the printer by special delivery or post:

  • Clearly label the box "THIS SIDE UP" designating how the printer should be laid down.
  • Tape the lid of the box securely with strong tape.
  • Clearly label the box as "FRAGILE" or "HANDLE WITH CARE".
