Procedure for adjusting file numbering PowerShot G10.

Solution

Resetting the File Numbers

You can select the way file numbers are assigned.

File Number Reset Options:

Continuous

A number one higher than the last one recorded is assigned to the next image. This is convenient for managing all your images together on a computer because you avoid file name duplication when changing folders or memory cards.*

* When a blank memory card is used. If a memory card with recorded data is used, the 7-digit number for the last recorded folder and image is compared with the last one on the card, and the larger of the two is utilized as the basis for new images.

Auto Reset

The image and folder number are reset to the starting value (100-0001).* This is convenient for managing images on a folder-by-folder basis.

* When changing to a new memory card. If a memory card with recorded data is used, the 7-digit serial number comprised of the recorded image folder number and image number will be the number for the new memory card.

1. In the (Set Up) menu, select [File Numbering] and use the or arrow to select [Continuous] or [Auto Reset].

2. Press the <MENU> button to complete the setting.

  • Setting the [File Numbering] to [Continuous] is useful for avoiding file name duplication when images are downloaded to a computer.

About File and Folder Numbers

Images are assigned file numbers from 0001 to 9900, and folders are assigned folder numbers from 100 to 998 (Folder numbers cannot contain 99 in the last two digits).

Folder File Capacity

Each folder usually contains up to 100 images. However, since images shot in Continuous mode and Stitch Assist mode are always saved into the same folder, a folder may contain more than 100 images. The number of images may also exceed 100 if a folder contains images copied from a computer or images shot with other cameras. Please note, however, that the images in folders containing 2001 or more images cannot be replayed in this camera.
