Change the Print Quality Settings (Windows)
The Quality settting controls how finely ink droplets are placed on the printed page. Depending on the type of paper being used a higher Print Quality setting does not always insure a better print. Print speed will decrease as the Print Quality setting is increased. Follow the instructions below to change the print quality settings in the Canon printer driver for the Windows operating system through a printing application.
- Click 'Properties' in the Print dialog box.
Note: Depending on the application software, 'Properties' or 'Preferences' may be indicated as Advanced.
- Click 'Main' tab to set the Print Quality.

Set the desired print quality in the 'Print Quality' section. You can select from High, Standard, Fast, and Custom.
* High
Printing can be performed with high quality. However, print speed will become slower.
* Standard
Print quality and print speed are standard.
* Fast
Print speed will quicken. However, print quality will be deteriorated slightly.
* Custom
Quality and Halftoning can be adjusted by clicking 'Set'.
- Select 'High', 'Standard', or 'Draft'.
To set more detailed print quality settings, follow this procedure:
- Select 'Custom' and click 'Set'.

In the Custom dialog drag the slide bar from 'Fast' to 'Fine' to select the print quality.

Quality level can be adjusted between Fine and Fast by dragging the slide bar (3).

Note: There are five options in 'Quality'. However, selectable options are limited depending on the media type.

Halftoning: Auto, Dither, or Diffusion can be selected (4).
Auto
The image data is printed with halftone best for the selected print quality.
Note: In Windows XP , Windows Vista and Windows 2000 (depending on the combinations of Media Type and Print Quality), the driver will determine the content of the image of the original and then switch automatically to either Dither or Diffusion.
Dither
Halftones can be created by arranging series of dots according to defined algorithms. This option is used for printing graphics where boundaries should be emphasized, such as business graphs.
Diffusion
Halftones are created by arranging dots randomly. This option is used for printing photos or graphics with fine gradations.

When the print quality is adjusted, click 'OK' at the Custom dialog box.

At the Printing Preferences dialog box, click 'Apply' to complete print quality adjustments.
