Confirm the port on the device functions properly by connecting it to another port or computer.
- If the computer does not recognize the device when a cable is securely connected at ends, try another port on the computer.
- If there is no other port on the computer to test or if the device is still not recognized when connecting it to another port on the computer, confirm a separate device does function on the same port. For example, if connecting a printer to the computer and the printer is not recognized by the computer, connect a scanner or digital camera to the same port (if possible) to confirm the port is functioning properly.
- If there isn't another device to test on the same port as the original device, connect the original device to another computer.
