Autofocus may not work well on the following subjects. In such case, focus manually.
Adjust the zoom before you start the procedure.
IMPORTANT
- When the [Camera Mode] is set to [
] (Auto) or [ ] (Baby) mode, this setting cannot be made. Please make the setting in [ ] (Cinema), [ ] (Special Scene), or (Program AE).
Manual Focus Adjustment
NOTE
The operational screen display may differ depending on the model you use.
1. Turn on the camcorder.
2. Touch [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0150964.gif) ].
3. ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0095950.gif) Drag your finger left/right to bring the [Main Functions] menu to the center, and then ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0095951.gif) touch the icon to open it.
4. ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0095950.gif) Drag your finger up/down to bring [Focus] to the center, and then ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0095951.gif) and then touch the icon.
5. Touch a subject that appears inside the frame.
- The [
] button turns to [ ], and then the [ ] and [ ] buttons appear.
- The Touch AF mark [
] will flash and the focusing distance will be adjusted automatically.

It is also possible to focus on a subject by touching the [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0098062.gif) ] button along with the [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0074708.gif) ] and [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0074709.gif) ] buttons instead of touching the subject.
6. To achieve focus more precisely, touch the [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0074708.gif) ] or [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0074709.gif) ] button to make fine adjustments.
When the [Focus Assistance] setting is [On], the center of the screen will be magnified.
For your reference, the focal distance to an in-focus subject in the scene appears during operation for a few seconds.
NOTE
If you wish to focus on faraway subjects such as mountains or fireworks, touch and hold [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0074709.gif) ] until the focusing distance changes to [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0016835.gif) ].
7. Touch [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0074552.gif) ] to lock the focus at the selected distance.
During manual focus, [MF] will appear on the screen.
To return to autofocusing, carry out steps 2-5 again, and then touch the [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0098063.gif) ] button.
NOTE
- During manual focus, you can touch inside the frame to activate the Touch AF function and autofocus on a subject.
