Before Starting
If your hard drive or solid state drive has a name other than Macintosh HD, substitute that in place of Macintosh HD in these instructions.
This article assumes that the Macintosh HD icon appears on your desktop. If this icon is not on your desktop, select Preferences from the Finder menu:

Place a check in the box for Hard disks.

If you don't want to have the Macintosh HD icon on your desktop, you can also find Macintosh HD by selecting Computer from the Go menu in Finder.

Troubleshooting Steps
If you receive an error similar to the one shown here after attempting to scan in macOS 11.5:

Follow these steps to resolve the error.

In the Finder, navigate to Macintosh HD / Library / Image Capture / Devices

Control-click or right-click CanonIJScanner### (where ### represents alphanumeric characters), then select Open from the menu.

Attempt scanning again.
