If you print something from your MAXIFY printer and the printout is smudged, it is possible that a bottom plate cleaning may need to be performed.  To clean the bottom plate, follow the steps below.
  1. Fold a single sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in half widthwise, then unfold the paper.

Fold one side of the opened paper in another half, aligning the edge with the center crease, then unfold the paper.

The paper will look like this:

  2. Load only this sheet of paper in the cassette 1 with the ridges of the creases facing up and the edge of the half with no crease facing to the far side.

After inserting the cassette into the printer, the paper information registration screen is displayed on the LCD. Select A4 or Letter for Size: and Plain paper for Type:, then press the OK button.

  3. Extend the output tray extension, then open the paper output support.

  4. Press the Setup  button.

  5. In the Setup menu, press the right arrow button until Maintenance appears.  Then, press OK.

  6. In the Maintenance menu, press the right arrow button until Bottom cleaning appears.  Then, press OK.

The paper cleans the inside of the printer as it feeds through the printer.

Check the folded parts of the ejected paper. If they are smudged with ink, perform Bottom Plate Cleaning again.  If you need to perform Bottom Plate Cleaning again, be sure to use a new piece of paper.

If the problem is not resolved after performing cleaning again, the protrusions inside the printer may be stained.
Wipe off any ink from the protrusions using a cotton swab or the like.

Be sure to turn off the power and unplug the power cord before cleaning the printer.
