Scanning in Mac OS X using MP Navigator MP130.

Solution

Basic Scanning Operation (Macintosh)

Capturing image data into MP Navigator

MP Navigator enables you to scan documents set on the platen glass, such as photographs and magazines. It also allows you to import image data from the memory card and capture image data stored on your computer.

Load documents like photographs and magazines on the platen glass for scanning.

  1. Lift the Document Cover.

  2. Place the document face-down on the platen glass. Align the upper left corner of your document with the alignment mark on the lower right corner of the Platen Glass.

  3. In the Applications folder on the hard disk that you have installed the printer driver on, double-click the 'MP Navigator 1.1' icon. MP Navigator opens.

  4. Click 'Scan Photo/Document'.

  5. Make settings such as 'Document Type' and 'Continuous Scan'.

    Document Type:
Select a document type to be scanned from 'Color Photo', 'Black and White Photo', 'Color Document', 'Black and White Document' and 'Text (OCR)'.

    Specify:
Change advanced settings for scanning such as 'Document Type', 'Document Size', 'Scanning Resolution', 'Reduce moire' and 'Enhance contours'.

    Continuous:
Check this to scan multiple documents continuously.

  6. Click 'Scan'. When the document has been scanned, the scanned image will be displayed in the preview area.

  7. Edit the scanned image as required. When there are multiple images, first select the image to edit (the status of the image with a gray exterior frame).

    NOTES:
    a. 'Clear' and 'Select All' will be displayed when multiple images have been scanned.
    b. Click 'Back to Main Menu' to return to the main menu.
    c. Click 'Rescan' to redo scanning.

  8. Select what to do with the scanned image data according to preference.

Scanning an image from an application:

You can scan an image from a TWAIN-compliant application and use the image in that application. This procedure varies depending on the application. The following is only one example. For the detailed procedure, refer to the documentation of the application you are using.

  1. Lift the Document Cover.

  2. Place the document face-down on the platen glass. Align the upper left corner of your document with the alignment mark on the lower right corner of the Platen Glass.

  3. In the application, select the command to scan a document (example 'Import').

  4. If necessary, in the scanner driver dialog box, preview the scan and make adjustments.

  5. Click 'Scan'.

  6. When scanning is completed, the scanned image will appear in the application's display area.

Launching ScanGear MP from ScanGear Starter:

By launching ScanGear MP from ScanGear Starter you can scan documents set on the platen glass, such as photographs and magazines.

  1. In the Applications folder on the hard disk that you have installed the printer driver on, open the ScanGear Starter 1.0E folder, then double-click the 'ScanGear Starter 1.0E' icon. ScanGear Starter launches ScanGear MP. If multiple scanner drivers are installed, the driver selection dialog box is displayed. Select the scanner driver to use.

  2. Configure the ScanGear MP settings according to preference, then scan in the document.

  3. Specify the file save method.

    Save as Type:
Select the file format to save scanned images in. Select from 'PICT', 'JPEG/EXIF', 'TIFF', 'PDF', or 'PDF (Multiple Pages)'. Advanced options can be configured for 'JPEG/EXIF', 'PDF' and 'PDF (Multiple Pages)' formats.

    Save Scanned Image to:
Display the destination folder to save the scanned image. To change the destination, click 'Browse' and specify the destination folder. The 'Users\XXXXX\Pictures\My Pictures' folder on the hard disk that has the Mac OS installed on is specified by default. (XXXXX is replaced with the user name.)

Save Pictures to a Subfolder with Current Date:
Select whether to create a subfolder named with the current date (for example, "2004-10-01") to save the scanned image in.

    File Name:
Click this to specify the file name of the image to be saved.

    - Enter a file name of the image to be saved in 'File Name'.
    - Check 'Display This Dialog, After Scanned.' to have this screen displayed whenever you have scanned the image.
