Solution

How to Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver

If the MP Navigator or the MP drivers are no longer required, or if they are not installed correctly, uninstall them.

NOTES:

* When uninstalling the software from Windows 2000, log on as Administrator, or have Administrator privileges.
* When uninstalling the software from Windows XP, log on as Administrator.
* To uninstall the software from Mac OS X, log on as Administrator.

How to uninstall the drivers (Windows 98 / ME / 2000 / XP)

To uninstall MP Navigator:

NOTES:

* When uninstalling MP Navigator or the MP drivers, uninstall the software in the following order: MP Navigator, the MP drivers, and ScanGearStarter. If ScanGearStarter is uninstalled first, the 'Canon' folder may remain in 'Start' --> 'All Programs' after the software is uninstalled.
* To close MP Navigator, click the 'X' in the top right of the screen, or 'Close' at the bottom right. When the confirmation message is displayed, click 'OK'.

  1. Close any open software applications, including MP Navigator and antivirus programs.

  2. Click 'Start' on the taskbar, 'All Programs', 'Canon', 'MP Navigator 1.0', and 'MP Navigator Uninstall'.



  3. Click 'OK'.



  4. Click 'Finish'.


To uninstall the MP drivers:

  1. Remove the USB cable from the computer and printer.

  2. Close any open software applications, including antivirus programs.

  3. Click 'Start' on the taskbar, 'All Programs', 'Canon', 'MP Drivers x.x', and 'Uninstall Drivers'.



  4. When the message 'Please select the device to delete' is displayed, select 'MP xxx Series', and click 'Perform'.



  5. When a message confirming whether the MP drivers will be deleted is displayed, click 'OK'.

  6. Click 'Finish'.



  7. When the message 'You must restart the system before the new setting will take effect. Do you want to restart the system now?' appears, restart the computer.

  8. Click 'Start' on the taskbar, 'All Programs', 'Canon', 'ScanGearStarter', and 'Uninstall ScanGearStarter'.



  9. Click 'OK'.



  10. Reinstall the drivers.

How to uninstall the drivers (Mac OS X Ver. 10.2.4 or later)

To uninstall MP Navigator:

  1. Close any open software applications, including MP Navigator and antivirus programs. To close MP Navigator, click the 'X' in the top left of the screen, or 'Close' at the bottom right.

  2. Select the 'icon of the hard disk' in which MP driver has been installed, and select 'Applications' to select the 'MP Navigator 1.0' icon.



  3. From the 'File' menu, select 'Move To Trash'.



  4. From the 'Finder' menu, select 'Empty Trash...'.



  5. From the Apple menu, select 'Restart...' to restart the computer.



  6. Reinstall the drivers.

To uninstall the MP driver

  1. Close any open software applications, including antivirus programs.

  2. Select the icon of the hard disk in which MP driver has been installed, and select 'Applications', and 'Utilities' to double-click the 'Printer Setup Utility' icon.

    NOTE: In versions prior to Mac OS X 10.3.x, double-click the 'Print Center' icon.



  3. Select all the registered BJ printers in the 'Printer List' dialog and click 'Delete'.

    NOTE: The BJ printer names listed in the 'Printer List' are those registered for use. Even if a specific model name is not deleted in this step, it will not be available in the next step.



  4. Select the icon of the hard disk in which the MP driver has been installed, and select 'Library', 'Printers', and 'Canon' to double-click the 'BJ Printer' folder.

    CAUTION: All the printer drivers including the pre-installed ones will be deleted.



  5. From the 'File' menu, select 'Move To Trash'.



  6. Select the icon of the hard disk in which 'ScanGear Starter 1.0E' has been installed, and select 'Applications', and 'ScanGear Starter 1.0E' folder.



  7. From the 'File' menu, select 'Move To Trash'.



  8. From the 'Finder' menu, select 'Empty Trash...'.



  9. From the Apple menu, select 'Restart...' to restart the computer.



  10. Remove the USB cable from the computer and the printer.

  11. Uninstalling the MP driver is completed.
  1. Turn the computer on to start Windows.

  2. Insert the CD-ROM for setup (Windows version) into the CD-ROM drive.

    NOTE: If the installation program does not start automatically, select 'Start' on the taskbar, and 'My Computer' to open the CD-ROM icon (in non-Windows XP: the CD-ROM icon in 'My Computer' on the desktop), and double-click 'Setup (Setup.exe)'.

  3. Click 'Easy Install'.

    NOTES:

    * The software installation can be performed using 'Easy Install' and 'Custom Install' methods.
    * 'Easy Install' enables the installation of the MP driver, MP Navigator, application software, and on-screen manual.
    * To change which items are to be installed, click 'Custom Install'.



  4. Click 'Install'. By clicking the information icon of a software item, the description of that item will be displayed. By clicking the README file icon of a software item, the readme file for that item will be displayed.



  5. When the License Agreement window is displayed, read it carefully and if you agree, click 'Yes'.

    NOTE: Installation may take several minutes to complete; please be patient. If a message requesting action for installation is displayed, follow the directions on the screen to continue the installation.



  6. Click 'Next'.



  7. Click 'Exit', and restart the computer. If the installation is not successfully completed, re-install the software.



  8. Connect the printer to the computer with the USB cable.

  9. Confirm that the printer is powered on. When the USB cable is connected, the computer will set the necessary information automatically. In Windows XP, the 'Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard' window will be displayed. Select 'Install the software automatically', and click 'Next'. In Windows 2000, the printer may not be set as the default printer.

To use the printer connected to a computer, the software applications must be installed.

CAUTION:
* If the antivirus software or the system-resident programs have been installed in the computer, close them before installing the drivers.
* When Mac OS X is shared by multiple users (accounts) first, log in as an Administrator.

NOTE: To use this printer in a network environment, install the MP driver into the server (computer connected to the printer) and the client(s) (computer(s) other than the server). Click the server's 'System Preferences', 'Sharing', and 'Services' to select 'Printer Sharing'.

  1. Connect the printer to the computer with the USB cable.



  2. Turn the computer on to start Mac OS X.

  3. Insert the CD-ROM for setup (Macintosh version) into the CD-ROM drive, and double-click the 'CD-ROM' icon on the desktop.



  4. Double-click 'Setup'.



  5. Enter the Administrator name and password for logging on to the computer, and click 'OK'.

    NOTE: Click the '?' icon to display the Help files for the printer.



  6. Click 'Easy Install'.

    NOTES:

    * The software installation can be performed using 'Easy Install' and 'Custom Install' methods.
    * 'Easy Install' enables the installation of the MP driver, MP Navigator, application software, and on-screen manual.
