Digital Zoom
With the combined optical and digital zoom functions, images can be zoomed as follows:
Selection
|
Focal Length
|
Shooting Characteristics
|
Standard
|
36 - 1728 mm
|
Enables shooting at zom factors of up to 48x with digital and optical zoom combined. |
Off
|
36 - 432 mm
|
Enables shooting without digital zoom. |
1.6x
|
57.6 - 691.2 mm
|
Digital zoom is fixed at the selected zoom factor, and the focal length shifts to maximum telephoto. This enables a faster shutter speed and less chance of camera shake than a shot taken at the same angle of view with [Standard] or [Off]. |
2.0x
|
72 - 864 mm

Shooting with Digital Zoom:
- The lens will zoom to the maximum optical telephoto setting and stop. Release the lever and press it toward
again to further zoom the image digitally
- The combined digital and optical zoom setting will display in the LCD monitor.
- Press the lever toward
to zoom back out.
- Based on the number of recording pixels set, the Safety Zoom feature calculates the maximum zoom factor beyond which image quality will begin to deteriorate. The digital zoom will pause at this zoom factor for a moment and the
icon appears on the LCD monitor. If you press the zoom lever again, you can zoom in even closer. In this case, the color of the zoom bar indicates the following:
- White: Optical zoom
- Yellow: Digital zoom (non-deteriorative)
- Blue: Digital zoom (deteriorative)

Shooting with the Digital Tele-Converter
The digital tele-converter feature uses digital zoom to achieve the effects of a tele-converter (a lens used for telephoto shooting).

- When using the digital tele-converter at [1.6x] or [2.0x] the
icon appears on the LCD monitor.
- Depending on the number of recording pixels set, the image quality may deteriorate (
and the zoom factor appear in blue).
5. Shoot the image.
- Shooting procedures are the same as for the
mode.

- Images become coarser the more they are digitally zoomed.
- Since camera shake may become a factor when using the digital zoom, the use of a tripod is recommended.
