If an ink cartridge is almost empty, or if there is an ink error, you will see a message on the printer's operation panel that it's time to replace the cartridge.
Caution
- Don't touch the electrical contacts (A) or print head nozzles (B) on the cartridge. The machine may not print properly if you do.
-
The inside of the machine may be stained with ink. Be careful not to stain your hands or clothing.
-
When opening the outer (scanner) cover, lift it with the inner (document) cover closed.
-
Don't touch the metallic parts or other parts inside the machine.
- If the cover is left open for more than 10 minutes, the cartridge holder moves to the right. In this case, close, then reopen the cover.
Replace ink cartridges
Follow these steps to replace one or both cartridges:
-
Make sure the printer is turned ON.
-
Open the paper output tray and lift the cover. Hold the cover open with the support (C).
-
The cartridge holder moves to the replacement position. Don't touch it while it's moving.
-
Pinch the tabs, open the ink cartridge locking cover, and remove the empty ink cartridge(s) (see the image slide show below).
- Take a new cartridge out of the package (1) and gently remove the orange protective tape (2).
If you shake the cartridge or touch the inside of the protective tape, ink may stain your hands and the surrounding area.
Don't reattach the protective tape after you remove it. Discard the cartridge according to the local laws and regulations.
-
Put the new cartridge(s) in the cartridge holder (1) with the color cartridge on the left and the black on the right.
-
Close the ink cartridge locking cover (2) and push down until it clicks (see the image slide show below).
-
Confirm that the locking cover is closed correctly (E) and not tilted (F).
- Lift the cover slightly, replace the support in its original position, and gently close the cover.
Good to know
-
When you start a new print task, the machine automatically cleans the print head. Wait for this process to finish.
-
If printed ruled lines or the print head position is misaligned, adjust the print head position.
About ink cartridges
-
We recommend that you use new FINE ink cartridges for the best print quality. Used cartridges may clog the nozzles and won't alert you when the cartridge is empty.
-
Both the color and black ink cartridges must be installed for the printer to function.
-
Some color ink may be used even when you print in black-and-white.
-
Both color and black ink are used with standard or deep cleaning of the print head.
-
If you get a notice that the ink cartridge is out, you can still print for a short time. Be aware that print quality may be reduced.
-
If you remove a cartridge, replace it immediately. Don't leave the machine with ink cartridges removed.
