Changing the Scan Settings (Fax) This section describes how to change the following scan settings to send a fax. ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0007421.png) Resolution Specify the resolution. Higher resolutions result in better image quality but require longer transmission times.

[ ] key | To clearly scan halftone photos, adjust this setting to the appropriate level on the <-> scale. This can reduce the moire (uneven gradation and striped patterns). | [ ] key | To clearly scan text or lines, adjust this setting to the appropriate level on the <+> scale. It is best suited for scanning blueprints and thinly penciled documents. |
Changing the Default Fax Settings The default settings are a set of standard settings predetermined by the machine. These settings become effective when the machine is turned ON, [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0136427.gif) ] (Reset) is pressed to revert to the default settings or when returned to the default screen after auto reset is performed. You can change the following default settings based on your needs: - Resolution
- Density
- 2-Sided Original (MF4890dw only)
- Sharpness

Press [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0051189.gif) ] or [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0051190.gif) ] to highlight <Fax TX Settings>, and then press [OK].
3. Press [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0051189.gif) ] or [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0051190.gif) ] to highlight <TX Function Settings>, and then press [OK].
4. Press [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0051189.gif) ] or [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0051190.gif) ] to highlight <Change Defaults>, and then press [OK].
5. 6. After you have specified the setting, press [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0051189.gif) ] or [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0051190.gif) ] to highlight <Apply>, and then press [OK].
7. Press [ ![](/library/attachments/CanonUSA/TroubleshootingContents/Images/Global/G0136232.gif) ] (Menu) to close the Menu screen.
