Learn how to connect computers and mobile devices directly to the MAXIFY GX3020 without a wireless router.
Solution
You can connect devices (e.g. computer, smartphone, or tablet) to the printer by two methods below.
Wireless connection (connecting devices via a wireless router)
Direct wireless connection (connecting devices directly without a wireless router)
You can connect up to 5 devices to the printer at the same time with Wireless Direct.
Some printers support IEEE802.1X / EAP (WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 Enterprise).If you enable Wireless Direct while IEEE802.1X / EAP (WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 Enterprise) is enabled, IEEE802.1X / EAP (WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 Enterprise) is disabled.
When IEEE802.1X / EAP (WPA/WPA2/WPA3 Enterprise) is enabled, enable Administrator mode so that the Wireless Direct settings cannot be changed.
Enable Wi-Fi in the Settings menu on your smartphone / tablet / computer.
For instructions on enabling the Wi-Fi function, refer to the instruction manual for your smartphone / tablet / computer.
Select Settings on the HOME screen and press the OK button.
Select LAN settings and press the OK button.
Select Wireless Direct.
Select Connect to smartphone.
To connect with an iPhone / iPad, select iPhone / iPad.To connect with an Android device, select Android device.To connect with a non-iPhone / iPad, select Others.
iPhone / iPad
Select QR Code.
Scan the displayed QR code with the iPhone / iPad standard camera app.
The iPhone / iPad is connected to the printer.
If the QR code cannot be read, press the (Back) button and connect the printer from Connect to smartphone > Others.
Android device
Select QR Code.
Scan the displayed QR code with the Android device in one of the following ways.
Select network and Wi-Fi on the setting of Android device.Select the QR code icon to the right of the Add network at the bottom of the list of Wi-Fi connections and scan the QR code.
Scan the displayed QR code with the Android standard camera app.
Scan the displayed QR code with a QR code reading app.
The Android device is connected to the printer.
Wireless Direct using QR code can be used with Android 5.0 or later.
It is available in Android 10 or later to scan QR code from setting and read QR code with the Android standard camera.
Depending on the smartphone / tablet, QR code may not be readable.
If the QR code cannot be read, select (Back) in the screen displayed QR code and connect the printer from Connect to smartphone > Others.
Others
Select Next.
Network name (SSID) and Password are displayed.
To show the password, select Show password.To hide the password, select Hide password.
The password is required when connecting smartphone / tablet / computer to the printer.
Select "DIRECT-XXXX-GX4000series" ("X" represents alphanumeric characters) on your smartphone / tablet / computer.
Enter the Password on the smartphone / tablet / computer.
The smartphone / tablet / computer is connected to the printer.
If the printer is set to display a confirmation screen in Connection request confirmation of the Changing Wireless Direct Setting (information below), when the wireless direct compatible device connects to the printer, a confirmation screen asking for permission to connect is displayed on the printer touch screen. Make sure the name on the touch screen is the same as that of your wireless communication device and select Yes.
You can print from your smartphone or tablet by installing Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY.Download it from the App Store and Google Play.
Change the settings for the Wireless Direct following the procedure below.
To change the Wireless Direct settings, you need to enable Wireless Direct in advance.
Make sure the printer is turned on.
Select Settings on the HOME screen and press the OK button.
Select LAN settings.
Select Wireless Direct.
To change the Wireless Direct settings,it is necessary to be enabled for Wireless Direct before.
Select Advanced mode on the menu screen displayed when selecting Wireless Direct and enable Wireless Direct.
Select a setting item.
Press the buttons to scroll if necessary.;
Show setting info
The setting values for using the printer with Wireless Direct are displayed.
Change network name (SSID)
Change the identifier (SSID) for Wireless Direct.
The identifier (SSID) is the printer's name (device name) displayed on a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device.
Follow the procedure below to change the identifier (SSID).
To set manually
Select Change manually and press the OK button.
Select Next and press the OK button.
Change using the keyboard that appears.
When you have finished making changes, select OK and press the OK button.
To set automatically
Select Auto update and press the OK button.
Select Yes and press the OK button.
You can check the updated setting.
When displaying the setting information, a screen appears asking whether to display the password at the same time. To display the password, select ON. To not display the password, select OFF.
Change password
Change the password for Wireless Direct.
To set manually
Select Change manually and press the OK button.
Select Next and press the OK button.
Enter the new password (10 characters).
Change using the keyboard that appears.
When you have finished making changes, select OK and press the OK button.
To set automatically
Select Auto update and press the OK button.
Select Yes and press the OK button.
You can check the updated setting.
When displaying the setting information, a screen appears asking whether to display the password at the same time. To display the password, select ON. To not display the password, select OFF.
Connection request confirmation
Change the confirmation screen setting when a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is connecting to the printer.
If you want the printer to display the screen to inform you a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is connecting to the printer, select ON.
To prevent an unauthorized access, we recommend you should select the setting to display the confirmation screen.
If you change the Wireless Direct setting of the printer, also change the wireless router setting of the device.
