Printer attempts to print but no ink is on the paper.
Verify the Ink Cartridge is Working Properly
You may be out of ink or the print head nozzles may be clogged. If this is a new cartridge, make sure the orange protective cap and tape have been removed from the bottom of the cartridge.
Perform a Nozzle test:
- Make sure printer is powered off.
-
Press and hold down the Power button until the printer beeps four times
- The Nozzle test should print a grid. The colors of the grid are determined by the type of BJ ink cartridge in the printer.
BC-20 all black
BC-21e black, cyan, magenta, yellow
BC-22e cyan, magenta, yellow
If the lines of the grid are broken, colors are missing or no ink is dispersed; perform several print head cleanings.
- Make sure printer is turned on.
- Press and hold the Resume button until the printer beeps 2 times (approx. 2 seconds).
- The power light will flash for several seconds while print head is being cleaned.
For the BC-20 and BC-22e: If the print head cleanings do not improve the output, you may need to replace the entire ink cartridge. For the BC-21e: If the print head cleanings do not improve the output, you may need to replace the BCI-21 black or BCI-21 color ink tank. If replacing the BCI ink tank and performing print head cleanings does not resolve the issue, you may need to replace the entire BC-21e cartridge.
