This is a lightweight, compact, wide-angle to standard zoom lens. The optical system consists of only ecologically sound lead-free glass lenses for the first time in the world. The lead-free glass was developed by Canon in corporation with a glass manufacturer. A replica aspherical lens (2nd) and a molded plastic (PMo) aspherical lens element (9th) are used to make the optical system compact. The focusing drive system uses a micro USM (Ultrasonic Motor), assuring silent and high-speed AF. The minimum focusing distance is 0.38m throughout the entire zoom range.
