Solution

Scanning an Image from an Application

You can scan an image from a TWAIN or WIA-compliant application and use the image in that application. The procedure to follow varies depending on the application. The following is only one example. For a detailed procedure, refer to the documentation for the application you are using.

  1. Place the document face-down on the platen glass.



  2. In the application, select the command to scan a document ([Import], [Acquire image], etc.).

  3. Select the scanner driver.
    1. To use ScanGear MP, select 'Canon MPxxx' (where xxx indicates your machine name).
    2. To use the WIA driver (in Windows XP only), select 'WIA-Canon MPxxx' (where xxx indicates your printer's model).

      Note: To scan with the value previously set in [Adjust the quality of the scanned picture], select 'Custom Settings'.

  4. In ScanGear MP dialog box, click 'Simple Mode' tab.



  5. Preview the scan and make adjustments as required.

  6. Click 'Scan'. When scanning is completed, the scanned image will appear in the application.

Select Source

Photo(Color) Scan in color photographs in color.
Magazine(Color) Scan in color magazines in color.
Newspaper(B&W) Scan in text and line drawings in monochrome.
Document(Grayscale) Scan in color photographs and documents in monochrome.

Note:

  • If you select [Photo(Color)], [Magazine(Color)], or [Document(Grayscale)], the Auto Tone function will be active. However, if you disable [Always Execute the Auto Tone] on the [Color Settings] tab of the [Preferences] dialog box in Advanced Mode, the Auto Tone function will be disabled.
  • If you select options other than [Newspaper(B&W)], the Unsharp Mask function will be active.
  • If you select [Magazine(Color)], the Descreen function will be active.

Display Preview Image

Click <Preview> to perform a trial scan.

Select Destination

Print(300dpi)

Select this to print the scanned image on the printer.

Image display(150dpi) Select this to check the scanned image on the monitor.
OCR(300dpi) Select this to convert scanned images to text data with OCR software.

Note:

When you wish to scan at 300 dpi or higher, specify the settings in the [Advanced Mode] tab.

Select Output Size

Flexible

When no cropping frame is displayed, the entire preview area will be scanned. You can specify the cropping frame by dragging the mouse in the preview area. When a cropping frame is displayed, only the image in the cropping frame will be scanned. You can adjust the cropping frame by dragging it.
The cropping frame will be displayed immediately after preview depending on [Cropping Frame on Previewed Images] on the [Preview] tab of the [Preferences] dialog box in Advanced Mode.
To delete a cropping frame, select a cropping frame, then click the [Remove Cropping Frame] button on the toolbar or press the keyboard [Delete] key.

Paper size (such as Letter and A4)

The cropping frame of the selected paper size will be displayed and only the image in the cropping frame will be scanned. You can drag the cropping frame to zoom in/out the image with the aspect ratio kept. You can also rotate the cropping frame 90 degrees with (Aspect ratio switching button).
You can select this option when [Destination] is [Print(300dpi)].

Monitor size (such as 1024 x 768 pixels)

The cropping frame of the selected monitor size will be displayed and only the image in the cropping frame will be scanned. You can drag the cropping frame to zoom in/out the image with the aspect ratio kept. You can also rotate the cropping frame 90 degrees with (Aspect ratio switching button).
You can select this option when [Destination] is [Image display(150dpi)].

Add/Delete

The [Add/Delete the Output Size]/ dialog box will be displayed to allow you to add options to the [Output Size] list.
You can select this option when [Destination] is [Print(300dpi)] or [Image display(150dpi)].

  • Enter values for [Output Size Name], [Width] and [Height]. You can enter values in [centimeters] or [inches] for [Unit] when you select [Print(300dpi)] for [Destination] and you can only select [pixels] when you select [Image display(150dpi)].
  • Click [Add] to add the value to [Output Size List]. To delete output sizes listed on [Output Size List], select the output size to be deleted from [Output Size List] and click [Delete].
  • Click [Save] to enroll output sizes listed on [Output Size List].

Note:

  • Up to 10 output sizes can be enrolled by destination on [Output Size List].
  • You may not delete predefined output sizes such as A4 and 1024 x 768 pixels.
  • An error message is displayed when you input a value out of the settings range. Input a value within the range displayed.

Invert aspect ratio

This button is available when [Output Size] is set to anything but [Flexible]. Clicking this button rotates the cropping frame. Clicking it a second time returns it to the original orientation.

Adjust Cropping Frames

You can adjust the scan area within the preview area. If no area of the preview image has been selected, the entire area within the selected paper size (auto crop area) will appear in the image. If an area has been selected, only the image of the selected area will be displayed.

Correct Images

Fading correction Corrects the color and scans photographs that have faded due to the passage of time or other causes and photographs with indistinct colors.
Backlight correction Corrects photographs that have been shot with reverse lighting.
