Enable/Disable Auto Power Off (Windows)

The Auto Power Off function automatically turns off the printer when print data has not been received from the computer for a specified period of time.

  1. Open the printer driver setup window, and click 'Power Off' on the Maintenance tab.

To open the Printer Preferences / Properties:

    For Windows 7

    • Click the 'Start' button from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and then click on 'Devices and Printers'.
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences' from the menu that appears.

    For Windows Vista

    • Click / Select the 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

    For Windows XP Home Edition

    • Click / Select the 'Start' button from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and Faxes.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

    For Windows XP Professional Edition

    • Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Printers and Faxes.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

    For Windows 2000

    • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

  2. Click the Maintenance tab.

  3. Click the button for Auto Power. The following dialogue will appear:

To set the printer to power off after a certain amount of time, set Auto Power Off to 'Enable.' Once enabled, you can then choose how much time the printer should wait before powering off. Your choices are 1 minute, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, and 60 minutes.

Note: A different automatic power off time can be set depending on whether the AC adapter is used or the battery is used. For Using AC Adapter, you can suppress the ink consumed by cleaning, by not switching the power on/off frequently. For Using Battery, you can set an automatic power off time to reduce the battery consumption, if you forget to turn off the power switch.

  4. Once your selections are made, click 'Send'.

  5. At the following dialogue, select 'OK'.

  6. Click 'OK' again to close the Printer Properties.
