This article explains how to adjust advanced settings for fax receive modes on the MX490 series.

Solution

To adjust advanced settings for receiving faxes, follow the steps below.
  1. Press the Fax  button.
     
  2. Press the Menu  button.
     
  3. Press the right arrow  button until Receive mode set. appears.  Then, press OK.
     
  4. Select the receive mode you want (Fax OnlyDRPD, Tel Priority) and press OK.
     
  5. When Make adv. settings? appears, make sure that Yes is selected (it will have brackets around it) and press OK.
Depending on the receive mode you select, the following advanced settings can be adjusted.

Fax Only
  • Incoming ring
    You can specify the number of times a phone that is connected to the printer rings when a fax incoming.


DRPD

  • DRPD: FAX ring pat.
    Sets the distinctive ring pattern of a call that the machine assumes is a fax call.
    If you subscribe to a DRPD service, set the ring pattern to match the pattern assigned by your telephone company.
  • Incoming ring
    You can specify the number of times a phone that is connected to the printer rings when a fax incoming.


Tel Priority

  • Manual/auto switch
    If you select ON, the machine automatically receives faxes after the phone that is connected to the printer rings for a specified length of time.
    You can specify the length of time until automatic reception is started.
  • User-friendly RX

    If you select ON, the machine automatically switches from telephone calling to fax reception by detecting the fax signal (CNG signal) when you lift the handset of the telephone or the answering machine answers. When you have an answering machine connected to the machine, select ON to switch to fax reception automatically after the answering machine answers.

    If you select OFF, the machine does not switch from telephone calling to fax reception automatically even if the machine detects the fax signal (CNG signal). Select OFF if you want the machine not to switch automatically during a call.
