- Press the printer's Stop button.
- Hold jammed paper firmly with both hands and pull it out slowly so as not to tear it.
- All jobs in the print queue are canceled. Redo the printing.
An error occurs if you load paper before the printer's LCD displays "Load a sheet of paperboard.". An error also occurs if the paper is not loaded in the correct position.
Follow the messages displayed on the printer's LCD when loading paper in the rear flat tray.
If the measures above do not solve the problem, the printer requires servicing.
There are two options currently available to you.
- Warranty Service – If you are within the 1-year manufacturer’s warranty and have your proof of purchase you are entitled to service or replacement. If you have purchased a CarePak Canon extended warranty, you may be entitled to additional options. Please create or log into your Canon Account to obtain service.
- Out of Warranty – If you are outside of your warranty period, you may qualify for purchasing a replacement through the Canon Upgrade Program. Please contact our Sales group to inquire about your upgrade options at 866-443-8002.

Do not tilt the printer when moving it since the ink may leak out.

If you cannot pull out the paper, turn the printer back on without pulling forcibly. The paper may be ejected automatically.
If the paper cannot be pulled out or is torn, open the printer's scanning unit / cover and remove jammed paper inside the printer.
- Press the printer's OK button.
The printer resumes printing. Reprint the page you were printing if it was not printed properly due to the paper jam.
If you turned off the printer in step 1, all jobs in the print queue are canceled. Redo the printing.
When reloading the paper, make sure you are using suitable paper and loading it correctly.
We recommend using paper sizes other than A5 to print documents with photos or graphics. A5 paper may curl and jam as it leaves the printer.
If the measures above do not solve the problem, a bit of paper may remain in the printer. Remove any paper jammed inside the printer.
- Hold jammed paper firmly with both hands and pull it out slowly so as not to tear it.
If the paper cannot be pulled out or is torn, remove the transport unit and pull the jammed paper from the feed slot of the rear tray.
- Load paper or envelopes in the rear tray.
Make sure you are using suitable paper and loading it correctly.

If the paper cannot be pulled out or is torn, detach the transport unit cover and remove the jammed paper from the rear side.
- Load paper in the cassette.
The loadable paper in the cassette is A4, Letter, A5, B5 or Executive size plain paper.
- Press the printer's OK button.
The printer resumes printing. Reprint the page you were printing if it was not printed properly due to the paper jam.
If the measures above do not solve the problem, a bit of paper may remain in the printer.
