You can scan images and documents from the printer to your computer, see the instructions below to learn how.
Before you begin
Install the MP drivers, (Windows).
Install the scanner driver, (macOS®).
- If the scanner driver isn't yet installed, install the scanner driver from the Canon website.
Connect the printer to the computer, either via USB or wireless connection.

Make sure the printer is connected to the computer correctly.

Don't plug in or unplug the USB cable while the printer is in operation, or when the computer is in the sleep or standby mode.

If you perform scan via a network connection, make sure all the required settings are specified.
Specify the destination and the file name in Canon IJ Scan Utility.
Forward a scan to the computer
- Turn the printer ON.

Select
Scan on the HOME screen. The screen below appears, use the operation panel.

Select
Save to computer.
- Select a computer to forward scanned data. Select Local (USB) for a USB-connected computer, or for a network-connected computer, select the computer where you want to forward the scanned data. The Scan standby screen displays.

Specify settings as necessary.

- Select the document type (A). When you forward the scanned data to the computer searched using WSD, you can't select the document type.
Auto scan
Document - Scans the original on the scanner glass (also called platen glass) as a document data applying the settings specified in Scan settings.
Photo - Scans the original on the scanner glass as a photo data applying the settings specified in Scan settings

Load the original item on the scanner glass.

Select Color for color scanning, or Black for black & white scanning. When you forward the scanned data to the computer using WSD, tap the Color button.

If you select JPEG or TIFF for Format on the scan setting screen:

When you select PDF or Compact PDF for Format on the scan setting screen:
- If you want continue the scan, load another original on the scanner glass and start the scan.
- If you don't want to continue the scan, tap OK on the printer. The scanned data is forwarded to the computer. If the scan result with Auto scan isn't satisfactory, select the document type or size according to the original in step 5.
- Scan forwards to the computer according to the settings specified in Canon IJ Scan Utility.
- Remove the original item from the scanner glass after scan is complete.

The program selection screen may be display after you select
Color or
Black. In this case, select
Canon IJ Scan Utility and tap
OK.
Scan originals with advanced settings, or edit and print scanned images
If you scan originals from a computer using My Image Garden, My Image Garden enables you to edit the scanned images, such as optimizing or trimming.
In addition, you can edit or print the scanned images using the compatible application software to make better use of them.
