Using the Flash The camcorder does not support the ST-E 2 Wireless Speedlite Flash Transmitter or the Wireless Sender/Receiver Control function of the Speedlite 420EX/430EX/550EX/580EX flashes. When recording under very dark conditions, as you keep the PHOTO button pressed halfway the AF assist lamp of the Speedlite flash may light on (if recording with autofocus).

Recording Color Bars/Audio Reference Signal You can generate and record color bars signals and a 1 kHz audio reference signal. With the customized functions you can choose between SMPTE standard-definition color bars ([TYPE 1]) and ARIB multiformat HDTV color bars ([TYPE 2 ]) and you can also select the strength of the audio signal (-12 dB, -18 dB, or -20 dB).
The XL H1 can record High Definition video at 1080i (1920 x 1080 pixels via HD-SDI using 4: 2 : 2 color sampling) or HDV 1080i (1440 x 1080 via IEEE-1394 or HDV tape) or standard definition NTSC compatible at 480i (720 X 480 pixels). 720P high definition mode is not supported. The HDV standard supports recording using color sampling of 4:2:0
Adjusting the Focus Autofocus is set when the focus selector on the lens is set to AF. The camcorder uses TTL autofocus system with a focusing range of 0.8 in. ( 2 cm) (at wide-angle from the front of the lens barrel) to infinity (when using the 20X L IS lens). The camcorder focuses on the subject in the center of the screen.
