You can manually receive faxes while the fax is in any receive mode. Connect the other end of the cord to the INPUT of the terminal adapter < 2 >. With the cord supplied by Canon, connect one end to the OUTPUT of the terminal adapter < 2 > and then the other end to the [L] jack on the fax machine .
