Description

Learn how to install or replace the ink cartridges in your PIXMA MX410.

Solution

When you see a remaining ink warning or an ink error like the one below, replace the ink cartridge.

Before you begin

  • Don't touch the electrical contacts (A), or print head nozzles (B), on the ink cartridge or the printer may not print properly.

  • If you remove a cartridge, replace it immediately. Don't leave the machine with ink cartridges removed.

  • Use new cartridges for replacement. If you install used ink cartridges, the nozzles may clog and the machine won't inform you when it's time to replace the cartridges.

  • Don't remove an ink tank and leave it out in the open. The ink dries out, and the machine may not operate properly when it\s reinstalled.

  • Keep both ink cartridges installed even if one runs out when you print. You won't be able to print if you remove the empty ink cartridge.

  • Color ink may be used even when you print a black-and-white document. Color and black ink are both used when you clean or deep clean the print head.

Install an ink cartridge

  1. Turn the power ON, and gently open the paper output tray.

  2. Lift the scanning unit (cover), and hold it open with the scanning unit support (C). The ink cartridge holder moves to the replacement position.

If the document cover is open, you can't open the scanning unit (cover). Be sure to lift the scanning unit (cover) with the document cover closed.

If the cover is left open for more than 10 minutes, the cartridge holder moves to the right. In this case, close, then reopen the cover.

Don't try to stop or forcibly move the ink cartridge holder or you may damage it. Don't touch the metallic parts or other parts inside the machine.

Be careful not to stain your hands or clothes when you replace the cartridges. You can wipe off any ink inside the machine with a clean cloth. For details, refer to the printed manual: Getting Started.

  3. Pinch the tabs and open the ink cartridge locking cover.

  4. Remove the ink cartridge.

  5. Take a new ink cartridge out of its package and gently remove the orange protective tape (D). Don't reattach the protective tape after you remove it.

  6. Put a new ink cartridge in the ink cartridge holder. The color cartridge goes on the left and the black goes on the right.

  7. Push down on the ink cartridge lock lever until it clicks.

  8. Confirm that the ink cartridge locking cover is closed. If it's not, push down the lock lever until it clicks.

    (E) Closed correctly.

    (F) Not closed correctly (the cover is tilted).

  1. Lift the scanning unit (cover) slightly to set the scanning unit support back to its original position. Be careful not to get your fingers caught.

When you start your next print task, the machine automatically cleans the print head. Wait for it to finish.
If printed ruled lines are misaligned or the print head position is misaligned, adjust the print head position.
