Solution

Scanning using the Operation Panel (Network connection)

You can scan documents using the operation panel of the machine on a network.


Important

Check the following points before scanning.


- Network communication between the machine and computer is enabled.

- Canon IJ Network Scan Utility is activated and enabled. ( is displayed on task tray)

- The machine is selected in the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility dialog box.

With network connection, you cannot scan images into applications other than MP Navigator EX. Connect via USB to scan into other applications.



Multiple users cannot scan at the same time.


1. Press the Scan button on the machine.


The machine enters Scan Mode.

2. From Scanned data processing, select PC...Forward scanned data to a PC. Press the OK button.


3. From Select PC , select a computer to which to send scanned data. Press the OK button.

Each computer appears as "User Name Computer Name".


4. Select the document type.


To scan from the platen, select Document (platen) or Photo (platen). To scan from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder), select Document (ADF simplex) or Document (ADF duplex).

Select Document (ADF duplex) to scan sides of the documents automatically.

When Document (ADF duplex) is selected, you can specify how to output the paper after scanning from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder).

5. Place the document face-down on the platen.
Alternatively, load the documents face-up on the ADF (Auto Document Feeder).


Important
If you select Photo (platen) in Document type, allow 3/8 inches (1 cm) or more space between the edges of the platen and the document. If not, some images may not be scanned at the correct positions and sizes.

Business cards, panorama photographs and bordered photographs may not be cropped accurately when scanned. In that case, disable Compress scanned images when transferring in the Scanner Button Settings tab of the Preferences dialog box and scan again.

6. Select what to do with the scanned image from Scanned data processing.


The following scan modes are displayed:


Save to PC: Scan and save documents.


Save as PDF file: Scan documents and save them as PDF files.


Attach to E-mail: Scan documents and attach them to e-mail by using an e-mail software program.


Open with application: Scan documents and open them with a specific application.


Advanced settings for these modes can be changed from your computer.

Important
You cannot select Save as PDF file, if you select Photo (platen) in Document type.

7. Press the Color Start or Black Start button on the machine.


The document placed on the platen or ADF (Auto Document Feeder) will be scanned, and the action selected in Step 5. will be performed.

Canon IJ Network Scan Utility Menu and Dialog Box

After installation, Canon IJ Network Scan Utility appears in the notification area of the taskbar.

If figure: Icon for enabled Canon IJ Network Scan Utility is not displayed in the notification area of the taskbar, click Start on the Windows taskbar, point to (All) Programs, Canon IJ Network Utilities, then Canon IJ Network Scan Utility. Then click Canon IJ Network Scan Utility to start it.

Enables or disables Canon IJ Network Scan Utility.
Enabled: figure: Icon for enabled Canon IJ Network Scan Utility, Disabled:
Settings... Opens the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility dialog box. You can select the machine you want to use.
About... Displays the version information.
Exit Exits Canon IJ Network Scan Utility and deletes figure: Icon for enabled Canon IJ Network Scan Utility from the notification area of the taskbar.

The machine must be selected with Canon IJ Network Scan Utility before scanning over a network.
In the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the icon and select Settings... to open the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility dialog box.
Normally, the machine is selected after setup. In that case, you do not need to select it again.


Select the machine you want to use.

Scanners that are registered to the system are displayed. Select the checkbox of the machine you want to use.

You can select up to three scanners.

If the scanner you want to use is not displayed, check the following conditions and click OK to close the dialog box, then reopen it and select the scanner.


- MP Driver is installed.

- Network setup is completed after installing MP Driver.

- Network communication between the machine and computer is enabled.

Selecting a Response to Commands from the Operation Panel with MP Navigator EX

MP Navigator EX enables you to specify the response resulting from pressing the Color Start or Black Start button on the machine. You can specify the response individually for each event.


1. On the Windows desktop, double-click (MP Navigator EX 1.1).
Alternatively, on the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to (All) Programs, Canon Utilities, then MP Navigator EX 1.1. Then click MP Navigator EX 1.1.


MP Navigator EX opens.


2. Click Preferences.



The Preferences dialog box opens.

The Preferences dialog box can also be opened by clicking Preferences in One-click Mode Screen.


3. Specify Event and Actions in Scanner Button Settings tab.




Click OK.


The operation will be performed according to the settings when you press the Color Start or Black Start button on the machine.
