Description

Learn what to do if a "Printer is offline" message appears when you try to print on a PIXMA MX432 or MX439.

Solution

If you try to print and see a message that the printer is offline, here are some things to check.
  • Make sure that the printer is plugged in and powered on.

  • You may need to power cycle the printer and wireless router to restore network communication.
  • Make sure that the printer and computer are connected to the same network.
To verify this, print out the network settings for the printer and check the network name (SSID). Then check the network name for Windows or check the network name for Mac®  to make sure it matches the printer's network.

  • If the printer is far away from the wireless router, its signal strength may be low. Move the printer closer to the router.
To check signal strength, print out the network settings. The higher the percentage, the stronger the signal.

  • If you use a Windows PC, make sure that the "Use Printer Offline" option isn't enabled. To check, follow these steps:

    1. Hold down the Windows  key on the keyboard and type the letter R. This opens a Run box.

    2. In the Run box, type control printers, and select OK.

Control printers shown typed into Run box

    3. Right-click on the icon for your printer, then select See what's printing.

Printer icon selected, and See what's printing selected from drop-down.

    4. Select the Printer menu, then remove the check from Use Printer Offline.

Use Printer Offline shown selected. This needs to be un-selected.

    5. Try to print again.

If this doesn't resolve the problem

  • Make sure that you are sending the print job to the correct printer.
If the print job is sent to a printer that's no longer connected to the computer, you may see this error.

Screen: The printer is offline. Check that the printer is connected and the printer power is on.

If the print job is sent to the correct (connected) printer, you will see this.

    Screen: Printing
