Uninstalling / reinstalling the wireless MX340 MP drivers (Windows)

Description

Perform the following procedure to uninstall and reinstall the MP drivers.

Solution

Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver

If the MP Navigator EX or the MP drivers are no longer required, or if they are not installed correctly, uninstall them.

Caution: Uninstalling means deleting software, such as MP drivers, from the computer. Once the software has been deleted the unit cannot be used through the computer until the software has been reinstalled.

Note: Login as a user with Administrator privileges to uninstall . Turn off any programs running in the background, such as anti-virus and firewall programs before beginning.

The procedure to delete the unnecessary MP Drivers is as follows:

When There is an Uninstaller

  1. Start the uninstaller.
    • If you are using Windows 7, Windows Vista, select the Start menu -> All Programs -> "Your model name" -> MP Drivers Uninstaller.
    • If you are using Windows XP, select the start menu -> All Programs -> "Your model name" -> MP Drivers Uninstaller.
    • The MP Drivers Uninstaller dialog box is displayed.


      Note:
    • In Windows 7 or Windows Vista, a confirmation/warning dialog box may appear when starting, installing or uninstalling software.
    • This dialog box appears when administrative rights are required to perform a task.
    • When you are logged on to an administrator account, click Yes (or Continue, Allow) to continue.
    • Some applications require an administrator account to continue. When you are logged on to a standard account, switch to an administrator account, and restart the operation from the beginning.


  2. Execute the uninstaller.
    1. Click Execute. When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
    2. When all the files have been deleted, click Complete.
      The deletion of the MP Drivers is complete.

      Note: Printer driver and scanner driver (ScanGear) will be deleted when you uninstall the MP Drivers.

  3. Now, install the wireless MP Drivers.


When There is No Uninstaller

When there is no uninstaller in the Start menu of Windows 7 or Windows Vista, follow these steps:

  1. Select the printer to be deleted.
    1. If you are using Windows 7, select the Start menu -> Devices and Printers.
    2. If you are using Windows Vista, select the Start menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Printers.
    3. Click the model to delete, then press the Alt key on your keyboard. On the File menu, click Delete.

  2. Delete the printer.
    1. If you are using Windows 7, when the confirmation message appears, click Yes. Then when the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Yes.
      The icon is deleted.
    2. If you are using Windows Vista, when the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Continue. Then when the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
      The icon is deleted.

  3. Select the printer driver to be deleted.
    1. If you are using Windows 7, click any icon in Printers and Faxes.
    2. On the commandbar, click Print server properties, and then click the Drivers tab. If the Change Driver Settings button is displayed, click that button.
    3. When the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Yes.
    4. In the Installed printer drivers list, click the printer to delete.
    5. If you are using Windows Vista, press the Alt key. On the File menu, select Run as administrator, and then click Server Properties.
    6. When the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Continue.
    7. Click the Drivers tab.
    8. In the Installed printer drivers list, click the printer to delete.

  4. Delete the printer driver.
    1. When you click Remove, Remove Driver And Package dialog box is displayed.
    2. Select Remove driver and driver package, and then click OK.
    3. In the confirmation dialog box, click Yes.
    4. When data collection is completed in the Remove Driver Package dialog box, click Delete.

  5. Click OK.
    The deletion of the printer driver is complete.

    Note: You may not be able to delete the printer driver properly from the Installed printer drivers list.
    If this happens, restart your computer, and then try again.

  6. Now, install the wireless MP Drivers.

Note: Before connecting the machine to the network, the computer needs to be connected to the network. Make sure that configuration of the computer and access point or router is complete.

Add (connect) the machine to the network.

A: Internet

B: Access point or wireless router, etc.


Notes on Wireless Connection
  • The configuration, router functions, setup procedures and security settings of the network device vary depending on your system environment. For details, refer to your device's instruction manual or contact its manufacturer.
  • In an office setup, consult your network administrator.
  • If you connect to a network that is not protected with security measures, there is a risk of disclosing data such as your personal information to a third party.
  • The machine cannot be used over a wireless and wired connection at the same time.
  • If an error message appears or if you have trouble with the network connection, refer to the printed manual: Network Setup Troubleshooting.


Important:
An "Ad-hoc connection," which establishes a direct connection to the computer over a wireless connection without using an access point, is not supported. Be sure to prepare an access point.

Install the Software

Do not connect the Wireless LAN setup cable (USB cable) yet.

  • To use the machine by connecting it to a computer, software including the drivers needs to be copied (installed) to the computer's hard disk. The installation process takes about 20 minutes. (The installation time varies depending on the computer environment or the number of application software to be installed.)
  • Quit all running applications before installation.
  • Log on as the administrator (or a member of the Administrators group).
  • Do not switch users during the installation process.
  • Internet connection may be required during the installation. Connection fees may apply. Consult the internet service provider.
  • It may be necessary to restart your computer during the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions and do not remove the Setup CD-ROM during restarting. The installation resumes once your computer has restarted.
  • If the firewall function of your security software is turned on, a warning message may appear that Canon software is attempting to access the network. If such a warning message appears, set the security software to always allow access.

Note: If you connect the machine via Wireless LAN setup cable (USB cable) before installing the software:
For Windows 7:
  1. Remove the Wireless LAN setup cable (USB cable) connected to your computer.
  2. Proceed to Software Installation.

For Windows Vista/Windows XP/Windows 2000:

The following dialog box may appear.

  1. Remove the Wireless LAN setup cable (USB cable) connected to your computer.
  2. If the dialog box closes, proceed Software Installation.
  3. Click 'Cancel'.
  4. Proceed Software Installation.


    Easy-WebPrint EX: If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or later, you can use the Web print software Easy-WebPrint EX. An internet connection is required for installation.


Software Installation:

  1. Turn on the computer, then insert the Setup CDROM into the CD-ROM drive.
    The setup program will start automatically.


    1. If the program does not start automatically, double-click the CD-ROM icon in Computer or My Computer.
    2. When the CD-ROM contents appear, double-click MSETUP4.EXE.

Windows 7 / Windows Vista Users:

  1. Click Run Msetup4.exe on the AutoPlay screen, then click Continue or Yes on the User Account Control dialog box.



  2. If the User Account Control dialog box reappears in following steps, click Continue or Yes.
  3. Proceed to step 3.
  4. Windows XP / Windows 2000 users, proceed to step 3.

  1. Click Easy Install.


    The drivers, application software, and on-screen manuals are installed all together.
    1. If you want to select particular items to install, click Custom Install.
    2. For Windows 7 / Windows Vista SP1 or later users, you can install the XPS Printer Driver from Custom Install.
      When installing the XPS Printer Driver, select the MP Drivers at the same time.

  2. Click Install.



    Note: To install Easy-WebPrint EX, you need to connect your computer to the internet at this stage. (Internet Explorer 7 or later is required.) If an internet connection is not available, it is also possible to install this software later.

  3. Select Use the printer on network, then click Next.



    Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

  4. When the Printer Detection screen appears, click Next.


    1. If the Printer Connection screen appears instead of the above screen, the connection method is not correctly selected in step 5.
    2. Click Cancel and start again from step 4, then be sure to select Use the printer on network in step 5.

  5. Make sure the machine is turned on, then click OK.



  6. When the Set Up New Printer screen appears, click Next.



    Note: If the Detected Printers List screen appears, click Set Up New Printer.

  7. When the Connect Cable screen appears, connect the machine to the computer with the Wireless LAN setup cable (USB cable).



  8. Proceed with the installation according to the displayed screen.
    1. If the Detected Access Points List screen appears, go to step 11.
    2. If the Confirm Connection Access Point screen appears, go to step 12.

  9. If the Detected Access Points List screen appears


    1. Select the target access point name/network name (SSID) (1).
    2. Enter the network key (2).
      1. Enter upper and lower case letters of the alphabet correctly. Letters are case sensitive.
      2. To use WEP key number 2, 3 or 4, click WEP Key Number, then specify the WEP key number.
    3. Click Connect and then go to step 13.

      Note:
      • If the target access point is not displayed on the Detected Access Points List screen, refer to the printed manual: Network Setup Troubleshooting.
      • For details on how to check the access point name/network name (SSID) and network key, refer to the manual supplied with your access point or contact its manufacturer.

        SSID: An identifier to identify the specific access point.

        Network Key: Also referred to as encryption key, WEP key or WPA/WPA2 passphrase, Pre-Shared key. A password required to set to prevent unauthorized access to communication.


  10. When the Confirm Connection Access Point screen appears



    1. Make sure that the target access point is displayed, then click Yes.
    2. Go to step 13.
    3. If the target access point is not displayed in the above screen, click No, then perform step 11.

  11. When the Disconnect Cable screen appears, remove the Wireless LAN setup cable (USB cable), then click Next.



  12. If the Automatic Setup or Auto Setup screen appears, click OK, then perform step 11.

  13. When the Setup Completion screen appears, click Complete or OK.




Install the Software (Information)

  1. Click Next.



    Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

    Important Information for the Installation

    Necessary Information for the User Registration



    The product serial number is required when registering the product. The serial number is located inside the machine (as shown in the illustration).

    Note: If the power is on, the FINE Cartridge Holder will move when the Scanning Unit (Cover) (A) is opened.

    If the Extended Survey Program screen appears



    If you can agree to Extended Survey Program, click Agree.

    If you click Do not agree, the Extended Survey Program will not be installed. (This has no effect on the machine's functionality.)

  1. Click Exit to complete the installation.



  2. If Restart is displayed, follow the instruction to restart the computer.
  3. Remove the Setup CD-ROM and keep it in a safe place.

    The buttons displayed on Solution Menu may vary depending on the country or region of purchase.

  4. Solution Menu starts automatically.




    - Using the Machine from Additional Computers

    Now that the wireless connection of the machine is complete, it can be used from additional computers on the same network.

    Install software including the drivers on the computer from which you want to use the machine. Other settings are not required.
