"No AirPrint Printers Found" When Attempting to Print from an iOS or iPadOS Device (PIXMA / MAXIFY)

Answer

The information below applies to PIXMA and MAXIFY printers.

Many Canon printers have the AirPrint feature which allows them to communicate with Apple® brand mobile devices that are connected to the same network without the use of a separate app. In order for this to work, your printer needs to have AirPrint capabilities and the printer and mobile device must be connected to the same network.

Please follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Make sure your printer is powered on. (You may need to reconfigure the Auto Power ON setting in your printer so that it automatically powers on when you send a print job to the printer.)

  2. Make sure that Bonjour is enabled on the printer. The location of the Bonjour setting will vary depending on your printer model.

For most printer models, this can be in Settings - Device settings - LAN settings - Wi-Fi - Advanced. Other models will have this setting in a different location.

  3. If your iOS / iPadOS device is connected to a VPN (Virtual Private Network), temporarily disconnect from the VPN.

  4. Verify that your iOS / iPadOS device is connected to Wi-Fi:

  • Tap Settings from the Home screen.

  • Tap Wi-Fi.

  • Make sure that Wi-Fi is enabled.

  • Make sure that there is a check mark next to the name of your wireless network. If your device is not connected to your network, tap on the name of your network to connect. Enter your network password if prompted.

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page for your printer to confirm that the printer is connected to the correct wireless network. If the printer is not connected to the correct network, use the Canon PRINT app to reconnect the printer to the network.

You may experience difficulty if not using the most up to date version of the Canon Print App.

  2. Try to print. If your printer is detected, select your options as needed.

If your printer isn't found, you may need to power cycle your printer and wireless network. Try to print again.

If power cycling does not help:

  1. Move the printer and wireless router closer together if they're far apart. (On the network configuration page you printed earlier, you will see the signal strength listed. For a stable connection, this number should be above 80%.)

  2. Temporarily disable any other devices that may be interfering with Wi-Fi communication between the printer and wireless router.

See a video with additional troubleshooting options here.

If your printer and iOS device cannot connect to the same network or no Wi-Fi is available:

If your mobile device and printer can not connect to the same network, or Wi-Fi is unavailable, you may be able to print with the Direct Connect or Access Point Mode feature. This feature allows your printer to send it's own signal to your mobile device without the use of a wireless router. To enable this mode, check the manual for your printer model.

See a video explanation of this function here.

Your printer may not have the AirPrint Feature:

It is possible that your printer does not have AirPrint capability. If your model does not have this feature, you can still print from your mobile iOS device with the Canon Print app, as long as your printer is connected to the same wireless network as your mobile device.
Below is a list of models that are not compatible with AirPrint.
