Scan documents such as photographs and text using the scanner glass (known as the platen).
Scan photos and documents

On the Windows desktop, double-click on the MP Navigator EX icon or select Start > (All) Programs > Canon Utilities > MP Navigator EX.
The MP Navigator EX navigation mode screen or one-select mode screen opens.

When the one-select mode screen opens, select the (Switch Mode) button to switch to the navigation mode screen.
If the Show this window at startup checkbox isn't selected, the last screen you used will open.

From the Scan/Import screen, select Photos/Documents (Platen).
- Place the document face-down on the scanner glass, and select Document Type. (Refer to the table below for help with the Document Type).

Allow 3/8 inches (1 cm) or more space between the edges of the scanner glass and the document.

Align a corner of the document with the corner at the arrow of the scanner glass.

When you select Color Photo or Black and White Photo, the position or size of the image may not scan correctly if you don't leave 3/8 inches (1 cm) or more space between the edges of the scanner glass and the document.
When you select Magazine(Color), the Descreen function is enabled and scanning takes longer than usual. To reset the Descreen function, disable Descreen in the Scan Settings dialog box. Select Text (OCR) to convert hand-written text or image data to text data with OCR software.

Select Specify... and set your scan settings.

The Scan Settings Dialog Box opens. Specify the document size and scanning resolution.

Select Scan.

When the scan completes, the Scan Complete dialog box opens. Select Scan to scan the next document, or Exit to end.

The scanned image appears in the Thumbnail List area.

Edit the scanned image as required.

When there are multiple images, first select the images to edit. (Selected images are outlined in orange.)

Use edit tools to rotate images, select a part of an image, etc.

Drag the mouse or use Shift + arrow keys to select multiple images. (An orange frame appears around the selected image.)

Select Save or Save as PDF file.

Specify the following settings as required:

When you select Save, the Save dialog box opens. Specify the destination folder, file name and file type.

You can't select JPEG/Exif when Document Type is Text (OCR).

The default folder is MP Navigator EX in the Pictures folder (Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10) or in the My Pictures folder (Windows XP and Windows 2000).

When you select Save as PDF file, the Save As PDF file dialog box opens. Specify the file type, file name, and destination folder.

Select from the following PDF file types:

PDF (Multiple Pages) - displays when you select multiple pages.

The default folder is MP Navigator EX in the Pictures folder (Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10) or in the My Pictures folder (Windows XP and Windows 2000).

When you select multiple images, each image is saved as a separate PDF file.

PDF(Multiple Pages)

Multiple images save in one PDF file.

PDF(Add Page)
|
The images you select are added to a specified PDF file. The images are added to the end of the PDF file. You can't rearrange pages of the PDF.
You can only select PDF files created with MP Navigator EX. You can't specify PDF files created with other applications.
If you edit a password protected PDF file, the passwords are deleted. Reset the passwords.

- Select Save.

Scanned images save according to the settings.

To further use / edit the scanned images on MP Navigator EX, select Open saved location in the Save Complete dialog box. The saved images appear in the View & Use screen.
PDF Settings dialog
In the PDF Settings dialog box, you can specify the PDF compression type and other advanced settings.

Enable keyword search: Select this to convert characters in a document to text data. This enables an easy search by keyword.

Document Language: Select the language of the document you want to scan.

Detect the orientation of text documents and rotate images: Select this to detect orientation of the text or rotate the scanned images.
This function may not work properly depending on the document language.
- Correct slanted document: Select this to detect scanned text and correct the document angle (within -0.1 to -10 degrees or +0.1 to +10 degrees).
These document types may not correct:

Documents with text lines inclined more than 10 degrees.

Documents with both vertical and horizontal text.

Documents with extremely large or small fonts.

Documents with small amounts of text.
-
Documents with figures / images or hand-written text.
-
Documents with both vertical and horizontal lines (tables).
Highly compressed PDF images may degrade if you repeatedly save them with high compression
