Sending from the fax machine using a calling (credit) card.

Solution

Sending Using a Calling Card

A calling (or credit) card can be used when sending faxes locally, long distance or overseas. Please see the back of the card for instructions on the exact dialing sequence. For instance, dial the toll free number provided by the vendor just as you would to make a regular phone call. If you are prompted to enter the calling card, do so - as you normally would. If a PIN (access code) has to be entered before the fax number is dialed, do so.

Here is an example of the typical number strings used when dialing using a credit card.

Type: Number to dial: Digits:
800 Number 18005551212 11
Calling Card 4011343339849402 16
Access Code 52364 5
Long distance number 15163283111 11

Tips to help you send a fax using a calling (credit) card.

  1. Connect a telephone to the fax machine.
    1. Connect a line cord from the telephone wall jack to the [L] jack on the fax machine.

    2. Connect a line cord from the extension telephone port on the fax machine to an external telephone.

  2. To send a fax using a credit card, it is recommended to dial using the attached telephone.

  3. To send a fax using a credit card, add pauses before the next string of dialing digits. The above example shows how a credit card is used to dial a long distance fax number. To provide time before the credit card numbers are dialed and avoid misdialing, pauses should be added. Pauses should also be added to allow time before the access code and long distance number are dialed .

    Example:
    18005551212pp4011343339849402pp52364pp15163283111

The number of pauses will depend on the provider's system and the switching offices.

It is suggested to confirm if the time before the next set of digits is dialed will always be constant. This way you can always use the same number of pauses for that dialing sequence. If needed, you can also change the pause [Pause time] length from its default 2 seconds to 9 seconds.

  4. If you use Coded speed dialing to send faxes, you can program the entire dialing string in each speed dial or program parts of the dialing sequence into specific speed dials. (You can program a maximum of 60 digits for each speed dial.) Programming parts of the dialing sequence is more reliable than trying to determine how many pauses to include in the dialing string. Review these suggestions to assist you in sending a successful fax using a calling or credit card.
    1. Program the 800 number you use to reach your provider on to a speed dial.
    2. Program the calling or credit card on to a different speed dial.
    3. Program the access code (if applicable) on to another speed dial.
    4. Program the fax number on to another speed dial or you can enter the fax number manually.
    5. After all numbers have been programmed as speed dials and you are ready to send a fax, press the <FAX> button on the operator panel.
    6. Insert the documents face-up on the ADF.

    7. Pick up the handset of the attached telephone and confirm you hear a dial tone.
    8. Press the speed dial that represents your calling card provider (800 number).
    9. When you are prompted to enter your calling or credit card, press the appropriate speed dial.
    10. If you are prompted to enter an access code, press the speed dial for that code.
    11. When prompted to enter the fax number, press the speed dial or manually dial the number using the numeric keypad.
    12. When you hear the remote fax machine's high-pitched receive tones, press <Start> (<Black> or <Color> buttons).
    13. When the transaction is complete, the fax machine will return to standby mode.
  5. If you prefer not to program your calling or credit card number or any of the dialing strings, you may enter them manually for each single transaction.

    1. Press the <FAX> button on the operator panel.
    2. Insert the documents face-up on the ADF.

    3. Pick up the handset of the attached telephone and confirm you hear a dial tone.
    4. Dial your calling card's 800 number.
    5. When you are prompted to enter your calling or credit card, dial the number on the numeric keypad.
    6. If you are prompted to enter an access code, dial them on the keypad.
    7. When prompted to enter the fax number, dial the number using the numeric keypad.
    8. When you hear the remote fax machine's high-pitched receive tones, press <Color> to send a color fax or <Black> to send a black and white fax. When the transaction is complete, the fax machine will return to standby mode.
