Description

If you see streaks and smudges on your printouts, even when the media type setting matches the paper you load, you may need to enable "prevent paper abrasion."

Solution

If you adjust the setting to prevent paper abrasion, it will widen the clearance between the print head and the loaded paper.

Manage paper abrasion settings from your printer

  • To enable the prevent paper abrasion function, press the Maintenance Maintenance icon button repeatedly until the LED screen displays this symbol: , then press the Black button.
  • To disable the prevent paper abrasion function, press the Maintenance Maintenance icon button repeatedly until the LED screen displays this symbol: Paper abrasion setting on LED (look like a lower-case r), then press the Color button.

Manage paper abrasion settings from your computer

  • Windows: Open the printer driver setup window, and in Custom Settings in the Maintenance sheet, select the Prevent paper abrasion checkbox, then select OK.

  • Mac®: In the Canon IJ Printer Utility, select Custom Settings from the drop-down, select the Prevent paper abrasion checkbox, then select Apply.

Good to know

  • Print speed may slow if you apply the setting to prevent paper abrasion setting.

  • When you finish a print task, it's good to disable the prevent paper abrasion setting so it's not applied to all further print jobs.
