The telephone line cord must be connected correctly for the device to function properly.
Solution
Connect the telephone line cord to the appropriate port on the device.

- Connect a line cord from the telephone wall jack to the [L] jack on the device. The [L] jack is indicated in the magnified view by the red arrow.
- Connect a line cord from the extension telephone port on the device to an external telephone, answering machine or computer modem.
