Solution

Cause

The printer can't detect the paper size.

 

What to Do

Press the printer's OK button to cancel the error and retry printing.

If the error occurs again, set the printer not to detect the paper width.

 Depending on the paper type, the printer may not detect the paper width.

 If the top cover is opened while printing is in progress, the printer may not detect the paper width.

 If you change the setting so that the paper width is not detected, return the setting after printing.
 

When printing from Windows using a printer driver:

Use the Canon IJ Printer Assistant Tool to set the printer not to detect the paper width.

 

When printing from macOS using a printer driver:

Use the Canon IJ Printer Utility2 to set the printer not to detect the paper width.

 

When printing by other methods:

Select Various settings on the printer's HOME screen, select Printer settings, Paper-related settings, Advanced paper settings in this order, select the paper type, and then set Detect paper width to OFF.
