This article explains how to use the Smartphone Copy feature of Canon PRINT on a ChromeOS device.

Solution

With Canon PRINT, you can make a copy of a document or a picture using your mobile device.  You can also make perspective corrections to printed images using this feature. Follow the steps below to use Smartphone Copy.

  1. From the main menu of Canon PRINT, select Smartphone Copy.

Select Smartphone Copy (outlined in red)

If you receive a prompt stating that Canon PRINT wants to access your camera, select While using the app or the appropriate affirmative response.

If you are prompted to choose an app to make use of this function, select Camera.

You may be asked to specify a folder to save the picture you take. Specify the folder as needed. Select Allow or the appropriate affirmative response after selecting the desired save folder.

  2. Hold a document or photo in front of the camera. Try to keep the document or photo as straight as possible while keeping it entirely in frame. Please note that if you are using an external camera connected to your Chrome OS device, you will need to place your document or photo on a flat, level surface.
Click or tap the shutter button

Select the shutter button to take a picture of the document or photo

Selecting the X at the upper right corner will back out of this process.

  1. After you have taken a picture, you will see a preview image. If you want to use this image, select the check mark. If you do not like how this image looks and would like to take another picture of your document or photo, select the X.

Select the check mark or the X (both outlined in red)

  2. The following information will appear:

Select Close to close the perspective correction information

Select Close to close this information.

The Correct Distortion screen will appear. Here, you can make adjustments to the frame (the green box). You can adjust this frame as needed by dragging a point in one of the corners of the frame, or by dragging one of the points in the middle of each side of the frame.

Select Next to proceed to the next step.

Drag a point in one of the corners of the frame, or drag one of the points in the middle of each side of the frame

Selecting the question mark will bring up the instructions shown at the beginning of this step.

  3. A preview image will appear. This will show not only the area of the image as shown in the frame, but it will also show that the perspective has been corrected:
