How do I install the Windows XP Driver for my Canon Digital Camera?

The Windows XP Driver for your Canon digital camera is a USB WIA (Windows Image Aquisition) driver, and is available on our web site at www.powershot.com. Following are the steps for installing the driver.

Note: If you have previously installed a USB TWAIN driver for your camera, it must be uninstalled before installing the USB WIA Driver. Click here for instructions for uninstalling the USB TWAIN driver.

Note: Users of Windows XP Professional must first log in as an administrator to install programs.

Installing the USB WIA Driver

For the PowerShot Pro90 IS, PowerShot G1, PowerShot S100 Digital ELPH, PowerShot S20, and PowerShot S10:

  • From the PowerShot web site (http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/customer/driverdown.html), download WIA391.exe.

  • Double-click the downloaded file to expand and generate an uncompressed folder on your PC.

  • Open the uncompressed folder and double-click setup.exe in the folder to install the driver files in your computer. (Note: Installation will not complete until you connect your camera.)

  • Attach the supplied USB cable to the computer's USB port and the camera's Digital Terminal, and set the camera to Replay mode.

  • The Found New Hardware Wizard will start automatically. Select [Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)], and click the [Next] button.

  • Select [Search for the best driver in these locations], check [Include this location in the search] only, then click the [Browse] button.

  • In the Browse For Folder window, select C:/Program Files/Canon/DC USB WIA/Camera1/ by clicking [My Computer], [Local Disk (C:)], [Program Files], [Canon], [DC USB WIA], and [Camera1].

  • When installing the USB WIA Driver 3.9.1, a warning message will appear. The driver can be safely used with Windows XP. Therefore, click [Continue Anyway] to proceed with the installation.

  • The driver will be installed on your computer.
