Verify the Scanner is Enabled in Device Manager (Windows XP/2000)

1. Click the System icon in the Control Panel dialog box.
   
   
   
   
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and select 'Device Manager'.
   
   
   
   
3. Under Imaging devices, if the device has a red X over the icon to the left of the device name, then the device is possibly disabled
   
   
   
   
   
4. Double-click the device name. The following screen will appear.
   
   
5. Click the drop-down under Device usage and select "Use this device (enable)".
   
6. Click OK.
   
7. Close Device Manager.
   
8. You should now be ready to scan.
