Telephoto Lens

Lenses between 80mm and 300mm are considered telephoto lens. An 80mm lens is considered a shot telephoto and a 300mm lens is considered a long telephoto lens.

Telephoto lenses bring us "closer" to a distant subject. The longer the lens, the "closer" we get.

Mostly, telephoto lenses are used for portrait, wildlife and sports photography. Telephoto lenses blur the background and foreground more than wide-angle lenses. Telephoto lenses also exaggerate camera shake, so it's important to hold them steady, even if you are using an Image Stabilized lens.
