How do I install the software?

Solution

Your PIXMA G5020 can be set up to work wirelessly with a Windows PC using a USB cable. If you have had difficulties in using the Easy Wireless Connect method to set up this printer, using a USB cable can help. Follow the steps below to set up the wireless connection for your PIXMA G5020 with a USB cable on a Windows PC.

  1. Insert the Setup CD that came with your printer. If you receive a prompt asking you to specify what action to take after the Setup CD has been inserted into the computer, select Run Msetup4.exe. If you do not receive a prompt, open This PC or Computer and navigate to your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive (usually D:).  Double click Msetup4.exe.

If you do not have the Setup CD, or if your computer does not have a CD-ROM or a DVD-ROM drive, click here, then click Download. If you are prompted to run or save the file, save it to your computer, then open it. This will launch the Full Driver & Software Package for your printer.

  2. When the setup program begins, click Start Setup.

If you are using the Setup CD, you will have an option labeled Use the updated software found on Internet. If this box is checked, the setup program will check for the most up to date versions of the drivers and software available for your printer.  If the box is not checked, the setup program will install the drivers and software contained on the Setup CD.

If you are using the Full Driver & Software Package, Use the updated software found on Internet will not be shown on this screen.

  1. Click Next.

If you are using the Full Driver & Software Package, or if you are using the Setup CD and selected the option Use the updated software found on Internet, the setup program will acquire information on the latest drivers and software for your printer.  This may take several minutes depending on the speed of your internet connection.

The installer will process for a few moments.

  1. Select your country or place of residence. Then, click Next.

  2. Read through the License Agreement. Click Yes to proceed.

If you are using the Full Driver & Software Package, or if you are using the Setup CD and selected the option Use the updated software found on Internet, the setup program will bring up an agreement regarding using services related to your printer. Read this agreement, then click Agree or Do not agree to proceed.

The setup program will process for a few moments and check the printer's status.

  1. On the Select Connection Method screen, click Wi-Fi Connection. Then, click Next.

  2. On the Select the Wi-Fi connection method screen, select Connect via wireless router (recommended). Then, click Next.

  3. On the Check Power screen, click Next.

The setup program will search for the printer on the network.

  1. On the Connecting Printer to Network screen, click Next.

  2. On the Preparing Printer screen, click Next.

  3. When the setup program begins searching for the printer, click Alternative Methods.

  4. Click Set up Wi-Fi connection using a USB cable. Then, click Next.

  5. When the Printer Connection screen appears, connect an A to B USB cable to the printer and to your computer.

The setup program will indicate that performing the network setup may take a few minutes.

  6. You will be prompted to select the network to connect the printer to. Select your wireless network from the drop down menu.

    Click Next.

  7. On the Password screen, enter your wireless network password into the box. By default, the characters you enter will be displayed as dots.  However, you can place a check in the box for Display password to show the password in plain text. Click Next after you have entered your network password.

The network information will be sent to the printer. This may take a few minutes.

  8. When the Connection completed screen appears, click Next.

If the printer is not detected on the network, make sure that there is no firewall or other security software currently running that may be blocking communication. If you have firewall or other security software, temporarily disable this software, or configure the software to allow communication with the ports needed for the printer. Refer to the documentation for your firewall or security software for more information.

  1. Disconnect the USB cable, then click Next.

  2. The setup program will then begin installing the drivers for your printer.

If you are using the Full Driver & Software Package, or if you are using the Setup CD and selected the option Use the updated software found on Internet, the setup program will download the drivers for your printer and then begin installing them. This may take several minutes depending on the speed of your internet connection.

The printer will then be registered in your computer. This may take a few moments.

  1. On the Test Print screen, load paper into the printer and click Start to print a test page. Click Next to proceed.

You can skip the test print by clicking Next.

  2. The Setup Complete screen will appear. If you want this printer to be the default printer for your computer, place a check in the box for Set as default printer. If you have other printers installed and do not want this printer as the default printer, remove the check from this box. Then, click Next.

  3. The Software Installation List will appear. Place a check in the boxes for the software you want to install.  Then, click Next.
