Connecting to a Printer Already on Your Network

Windows Server 2003 is only supported on the imageCLASS D800 series. |
If the printer is already on your network you can install it in two different ways. The easiest way is using automatic network download. If network download is not available, you can use the [Add Printer Wizard].
Add Printer Wizard:
Windows 95/98/Me Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003
Network Download
Windows 95/98/Me and Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003 clients can download the drivers for the printer automatically.
- Open Explorer and browse the network until you can see the printer icon.
- Double-click the printer icon, or drag the printer icon to the Printers (in Windows XP/Server 2003, Printers and Faxes) folder.

Follow the instructions on screen.

Service Pack 4 or later must be installed on Windows NT servers in order for Windows 95/98/Me clients to use network download. |

Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003 clients cannot download the driver from Windows 95/98/Me servers. |

To install CAPT from a network printer, you can use the Windows 95/98/Me [Add Printer Wizard].
- From the [Start] menu, select [Settings], then [Printers]. The Printers folder appears.
- Double-click the [Add Printer] icon. The [Add Printer Wizard] dialog box appears.
- Select [Network printer], then click [Next>].

Enter the network path or print queue that you want to connect to, or use [Browse...] to open the [Browse for Printer] dialog box to select the printer.

Depending on your network environment, the installation of the driver may be carried out automatically. In this case you need not perform steps 5 to 8 below. |
- The Wizard displays a list of available printers. Click [Have Disk...].
- The [Install From Disk] dialog box appears. Use [Browse...] to select the directory or enter the path name that contains the printer software, then click [OK]..

If the server is a Windows 95/98/Me computer, you can enter a name for the printer, or accept the default name and click [Next>].

If the connection fails you are able to install the printer, but you will not be able to use the printer until it comes back online. |
- Follow the instructions on screen to complete installation.

To install CAPT for a network printer you can use the Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003 [Add Printer Wizard].
- Log on as an Administrator. The full control access rights for the printer is necessary for the installation of CAPT.
- From the [Start] menu, select [Settings], then [Printers] (in Windows XP/Server 2003, select [Printers and Faxes] from [Start] menu). The [Printers] (in Windows XP/Server 2003, [Printers and Faxes]) folder appears.
- Double-click the [Add Printer] icon (in Windows XP/Server 2003, click [Add a printer] in [Printer Tasks]). The [Add Printer Wizard] dialog box appears.
- Select [Network printer server] (in Windows XP/Server 2003, select [A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer]), then click [Next>]. The [Connect to Printer] ([Specify a Printer] in Windows XP/Server 2003) dialog appears.
- Select the printer you want to connect to, then click [OK]. If the printer name is invalid, it means that the client could not connect to the network printer specified. If a suitable driver is not found, it probably means that the server is a Windows 95/98/Me computer.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
