Check Printer appears on the F20

Problem Description

After printing a document or making a copy, the MultiPASS displays [Check Printer].

The printer carriage will not move for the following reasons:

  • The print head may not be installed correctly.
  • There may be an obstruction in the printer path.
  • The print head may have overheated.
  • The print head may be defective.
  • The unit requires service.

Check the print head installation.

  1. Open the paper output tray and inner cover. The printer carriage will automatically move to center when the inner cover is opened.

If the printer carriage will not move to the center, skip to 'Obstruction'.

  1. Wait for the printer carriage to stop moving. Once the carriage has centered, raise the lock lever to release the print head.
  2. Remove the print head from the MultiPASS.
  3. Place the print head back into position.
  4. Press down the lever to lock the print head in place.
  5. Close the inner cover and paper output tray.
  6. Press the right arrow to clear the message [INK TANK CHANGED].

Obstruction:

  1. Check for a paper jam, paper clip, or other foreign material that may keep the printer carriage from sliding left or right.
  2. Carefully remove the obstruction and then close the inner cover and paper output tray.

Overheated print head:

  1. Press the <ON/OFF> key to power off the MultiPASS.
  2. Allow the print head and printer to cool off for approximately 10 minutes.
  3. Press the <ON/OFF> key to power on the MultiPASS again.
  4. Open the paper output tray and inner cover to make sure the carriage will move to center position.

Defective print head:

  1. Open the paper output tray and inner cover. The printer carriage will automatically move to center when the inner cover is opened.
  2. If the carriage has stopped in the center, remove the print head from the MultiPASS and replace it.

Note: If you install the ink tanks from the defective print head and place them into the new print head, the MultiPASS will register those used tanks as new. It is recommended to install new ink tanks.

  1. Open the print head packaging and remove the new print head.
  2. Lift off the orange protective cap.
  3. Slide the new print head into position.
  4. Press down the lever to lock the print head in place.
  5. Close the inner cover and paper output tray.
  6. When the LCD displays [INK TANK CHANGED], press the '<' left arrow on the operator panel to select 'YES' and to reset the ink counter or press the '>' right arrow to select 'NO'.
  7. The next set of displays will ask if the black and color ink tanks were changed, make your selection by pressing the appropriate arrow. Press the '<' left arrow to select 'YES' or press the '>' right arrow to select 'NO'.
