Downloading images from the EOS 1D to a Windows computer

Solution

How do I download images from the camera to a Windows computer?

Windows 98 or Windows 2000

The TWAIN Driver is a tool to communicate with the camera, but must be ?called? from a graphics editing program, such as Photoshop 5.0 LE, which shipped with the EOS 1D. The following instructions provide basic procedures for downloading images from the camera into Photoshop 5.0 LE.

  1. With the EOS 1D connected to the computer and powered on, start the Photoshop 5.0 LE program.
  1. The first time that you use the EOS 1D with Photoshop (and anytime that you use the EOS 1D after having used another TWAIN device), you will need to select the EOS 1D TWAIN Driver. From the File menu, select Import and Select TWAIN_32 Source. The Select Source dialog box is displayed. Highlight Canon EOS-1D on the list, and click on the Select button.
  1. Having set the source, from the File menu, select Import and TWAIN_32?
  1. The TWAIN Driver main window opens. This window contains a great number of options and tools, providing a comprehensive package for viewing, screening, editing, and processing your images. See your Software Instructions Manual for a detailed explanation of each tool/option. To display the images stored on the CF card in your camera, click on the Camera Connection button in the upper right section of the screen. On the left side of the screen, in the Select Image Folder display area, are listed the folders contained on the CF card. Click on the appropriate folder, or click on ALL to display all files stored on the CF card.
  1. Because you have the option of taking and saving images in JPEG format, RAW format, or JPEG and RAW, select the format for the images you wish to display using the Image Display Format box. Your choices are ALL, JPEG, EOS-1D RAW, EOS-1D RAW/JPEG, or EOS D30 RAW. RAW images will be displayed with a .tif file extension. If RAW and JPEG files are displayed, the RAW files will be displayed first.
  1. Select the thumbnail(s) for the image(s) which you wish to transfer to Photoshop. Multiple images can be selected by holding the CTRL key while clicking on additional thumbnails. Ensure that the Image Transfer Mode box shows ?Transfer as Image?, then click on the Transfer Image button on the right side of the screen.
  1. The selected image(s) will now be displayed in Photoshop 5.0 LE, where you can edit them as desired and save them in the format which you desire.

Windows ME or XP

Using the WIA driver, the images on your camera are accessible through the Microsoft ?Scanner and Camera Wizard.? This is accessed through the ?My Computer? icon on your Start menu. Using the ?Scanner and Camera Wizard? you can copy all files from your camera to any folder on your system. If you have shot any RAW images, they can then be processed using the Canon File Viewer Utility.
