Description

Instructions to perform a Print Head Alignment directly from the machine. If diagrams or ruled lines are misaligned, print head alignment is required.

Solution

Aligning the Print Head

If ruled lines are printed misaligned or print results are otherwise unsatisfactory, adjust the print head position.

Note : Make sure that the Inner Cover is closed.

Automatic Print Head Alignment


Note : You cannot feed paper from the Cassette when performing Automatic Print Head Alignment. Always load paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.

1. Make sure that the machine is turned on, and then load three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.

2. Open the Paper Output Tray, and then open the Output Tray Extension.

3. Adjust the print head position.

(1) Select 'Settings' on the HOME screen.

(2) Select 'Maintenance', then press the <OK> button. The Maintenance screen is displayed.

(3) Select 'Auto head align', then press the <OK> button. The confirmation screen is displayed.

Note : If you select Head alignment print, the machine exits the process after printing the current head position adjustment values.

(4) Select 'Yes', then press the <OK> button.

The print head is aligned automatically, and the print head pattern after the adjustment is printed out. This takes about 4 minutes.

Note : The print head alignment pattern is printed in black and blue.

If adjustment was not done successfully, the "Auto head align has failed." error message is displayed on the LCD.

If results of Automatic Print Head Alignment are not satisfactory, perform Manual Print Head Alignment. For details, see Manual Print Head Alignment.

Manual Print Head Alignment


If the results of Automatic Print Head Alignment are not satisfactory, follow the procedure below to perform Manual Print Head Alignment.

For details on performing Automatic Print Head Alignment, see Automatic Print Head Alignment.

1. Make sure that the machine is turned on, and then load three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder or the Cassette.

Note: You cannot print the print head alignment pattern if paper of size other than A4 or Letter is loaded. Be sure to use A4 or Letter-sized plain paper.


2 Open the Paper Output Tray, and then open the Output Tray Extension.

3. Press the Paper Feed Switch to select the paper source where you have loaded paper.

4. Select 'Settings' on the HOME screen.

5. Select 'Maintenance', then press the <OK> button.The Maintenance screen is displayed.

6 Select 'Manual head align', then press the <OK> button. The confirmation screen is displayed.

Note : If you select Head alignment print, the machine exits the process after printing the current head position adjustment values.

7. Select 'Yes', then press the <OK> button.

8. When the Print Head alignment pattern is printed, select 'Yes', then press the <OK> button.

9. Look at the printout. From the patterns, select the most even, least irregular patterns for each column and input their numbers. Press the <OK> button.


(a) Select a column to input the pattern number.

(b) Use the or button to input the number of the pattern.

(b) Repeat the steps (a) and (b) until you finish inputting all pattern numbers, press the <OK> button.

10. When the confirmation message is displayed, press the <OK> button.

11. Look at the printout. From the patterns, select the most even, least irregular patterns for each column and input their numbers. Press the <OK> button.

In the same way as in step 9, input the numbers.

Columns G to J are striped vertically and columns K is striped horizontally. For Column K , the best pattern will be smooth and have no streaks in the border indicated by the arrows.

Note : If it is difficult to pick the best pattern, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable vertical white streaks.


(A) Less noticeable white streaks

(B) More noticeable white streaks

12. When the confirmation message is displayed, press the <OK> button.

13. Look at the printout. From the patterns, select the most even, least irregular patterns for each column and input their numbers. Press the <OK> button.

In the same way in step 9, input the numbers.

Note : When you turn off the machine, be sure to press the <ON/OFF> button on the machine. Otherwise, the settings made here will not be saved.
