Description

not a valid Win32 application

Solution

not a valid Win32 application

not a valid Win32 application

When installing the MultiPASS software, you may see one of the following error messages:

"ISINST30 caused an invalid page fault in Module INSO433"

"INST5176 caused an invalid page fault in Module ZDATAi51.DLL"

"This (or xxxxx.exe) is not a valid Win32 application"

These errors are usually the result of one or more of the following:

To remove temporary files:

  1. Open Windows Explorer by selecting 'Start', 'Programs', 'Windows Explorer'.
  2. On the left side of the screen, go to the yellow 'Windows' folder and click on the '+' sign to the left of it.
  3. Go down, and click on the 'Temp' folder to highlight it.
  4. At the top of the screen, click on 'Edit', 'Select All'.
  5. Next, click on 'File', 'Delete'. Answer 'Yes' to confirm sending these files to your Recycle Bin.
  6. Close Windows Explorer.
  7. Click 'Start', 'Find', 'Files or Folders'.
  8. In the 'Named' window type *.tmp.
  9. Ensure that the 'Look In' window shows C:\ and that the 'Include Subfolders' box is checked. Click 'OK'.
  10. Again, click 'Edit', 'Select All'. Click 'File', 'Delete'. Click 'OK'.

To close background programs:

  1. On the keyboard, press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Delete].
  2. This will bring up the Close Program window. If you have no programs running from your Start menu, all programs displayed are running in the background.
  3. To close a program, highlight it on the list, then click on 'End Task'. (Do not close Explorer; this is the name of the main Windows program.)
  4. Repeat from step 1 until all programs except Explorer have been closed.

Note: Some programs may display a Program not Responding box. Click 'End Task' in this box.

To clean your CDROM disk:

  1. Inspect the back side (the shiny, non-labeled side) for any deep scratches or cracks. If found, this may prevent some files from loading. All MultiPASS drivers are available for download from our web site if you find this to be the case.
  2. Clean your CDROM disk by rinsing it with warm running water. Remove dust, oils, and fingerprints.
  3. Dry the CDROM disk with a soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe from the center to the outer edge, not in a circular motion.

Reattempt installation. If you are still having problems, it may indicate problems in Windows itself. You may wish to download the MultiPASS drivers from our web site and install them, as they have later versions of the installation program.

One other area to check, especially if you are receiving the 'invalid Win32' error, is if your computer is operating in DOS compatibility mode. To find out, double-click My Computer, then double-click Control Panel, then find and double-click System. Click on the Performance tab along the top. Your File System should show '32-bit'. If it shows 'DOS Compatibility Mode' for any drive, you should have your computer checked for damaged drivers or other related problems.
