Description

Learn how to update the firmware on your PIXMA MX922 printer.

Solution

Do this first

Before updating the firmware, check to see if it's necessary. Print the nozzle check pattern and check the output. If the firmware listed on the result is earlier than version 2.070, an update is recommended.

Update the firmware

  1. At the printer, disconnect any LAN or USB cables except the one connected to the computer.

  2. Remove any memory cards from the card slots.

  3. At the computer, disconnect printers other than the one you want to update and make sure it is connected via USB.

  4. Start the Canon update utility Canon update utility icon.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the firmware update. Don't disconnect the printer until the update is complete.
    Note You can disconnect the USB and reconnect the printer to the LAN after the printer shuts down to complete the update.

Fix errors

If there is an error during the update, a message displays. Check the table below to find the cause and remedy.
 

Message

This program does not support the operating system you use.

An attempt was made to run the Printer Update Utility on an operating system that the utility does not support.

Use a supported operating system.

More than one printer is connected.

Two or more printers to be updated are connected to the computer.

Make sure only one printer is connected with a USB cable, then restart the utility.

The printer status is incorrect.

The printer was unable to execute the update.

Turn the printer ON again, then restart the utility.

An error occurred during the printer function update.

Since the update failed, the printer cannot be used in its current condition.

The printer power was turned off or the USB cable was disconnected during the update.

  1. Press OK button to terminate the Printer Update Utility. 
  2. Turn off the printer power, wait a few seconds, and then turn on the power again.
  3. Start the utility again, and operate it.

If the printer doesn't start normally or if the update can't be completed, repairs are necessary.

Windows

The printer cannot be found.

  • The printer and the computer aren't connected via a USB cable.
  • The printer power is off.
  • The downloaded utility is for a different printer.
  • The printer is operating.
  • The printer driver is not installed.
  1. Connect the printer and the computer by using a USB cable.
  2. Turn on the printer.
  3. Download the Printer Update Utility for the printer to be updated, and then start over from the beginning.
  4. Wait until the printer operation ends, and then run the utility.
  5. Install the printer driver.

Macintosh®

Mac OS X® Classic is running.

An attempt was made to operate the Printer Update Utility while Classic was running on Mac OS X.

Stop Classic, and operate the Printer Update Utility from Mac OS X.

The printer cannot be found.

  1. The printer and the computer aren't connected via a USB cable.

  2. The printer power is off.

  3. The downloaded utility is for a different printer.

  4. The printer is operating.

  1. Connect the printer and the computer with a USB cable.

  2. Turn on the printer.

  3. Download the Printer Update Utility for the printer to be updated, and start over from the beginning.

  4. Wait until the printer operation ends, and then run the utility.
