Description

Learn what restrictions apply when you connect a mobile device to your PIXMA printer using Wireless Direct.

Solution

Tip You can connect to the printer wirelessly from a computer or mobile device (even without a wireless router). Search for "Wireless Direct" in the Canon Knowledge Base or find instructions for your specific printer in the Canon Manual Library.
Note When you connect a new device to your printer, use the connection method used for the previous device(s); otherwise, the connected device(s) will be disabled.

Connect via wireless router

  • Make sure your device and the wireless router are connected. See the router manual for details.

  • Configuration, router functions, setup procedures and security settings of network devices vary depending on the system environment. See the router manual for details.

  • These printers don't support IEEE802.11ac, IEEE802.11a, or IEEE802.11n (5 GHz). Check if your device supports IEEE802.11n (2.4 GHz), IEEE802.11g or IEEE802.11b.

  • If your device is set to the "IEEE802.11n only" mode, WEP or TKIP can't be used as a security protocol. Change the security protocol to something other than WEP and TKIP, or change the setting to something other than "IEEE802.11n only." The router / device connection temporarily disables if you change settings.

  • For office use, consult your network administrator.

  • If you connect to a network with no security protection, your personal information could be disclosed to a third party.

Wireless Direct mode

  • Your mobile device can use Wi-Fi® to communicate with the printer and still use mobile data for other tasks.

  • Charges may apply when you connect to the Internet using a mobile data connection.

  • When you use Wireless Direct to connect your printer and router, the Wi-Fi settings are saved. This means your device may automatically connect to the printer. To prevent this, change the connection mode after you use the printer, or set your device's Wi-Fi settings to block automatic connection.

  • To check or change wireless router settings, see the router manual.

  • If you connect a device and the printer via Wireless Direct and lose the connection to the Internet, web services for the printer are unavailable.

  • You can connect up to five devices to the printer with Wireless Connect. If you connect a sixth device, an error will appear.

  • Devices connected to the printer via Wireless Direct can't communicate with each other.

  • Firmware updates for the printer aren't available when you use Wireless Direct.

  • If you connect a device to the printer without using a router, then disconnect the device, you will need to go to the Wi-Fi setting screen to disable the connection before you can reconnect the device.
