Description

Instructions to adjust the ink intensity settings in the Windows operating system.

Solution

Set the Ink Intensity (Windows)

The Intensity setting controls the amount of ink placed on the paper. The higher the intensity the darker (more ink) the printed image will be. If the Intensity setting is set too high, the printed page may become too wet and curl or streak. The coloring can be adjusted manually for all items, or automatically using ICM (Windows color correcting function). Follow the instructions below to adjust the ink intensity settings.

  1. Open the printer Properties window. (For instructions to open the Properties window, click here.)

Note: In Windows XP, click 'Preferences' from the General tab of the Properties window. The images used are for a Canon PIXMA MP500 printer in the Windows XP Operating System. The options may appear differently than those displayed based on the printer, driver version and the Operating System.

  2. On the Main tab, select 'Manual' for 'Color Adjustment', and then click 'Set'. (The Manual Color Adjustment window will be displayed.)

  3. Adjust the desired settings for 'Intensity', 'Color Balance', 'Print Type', 'Brightness' and 'Enable ICM'.

  4. Click 'OK' to complete the setup.

Note: To change the setting back to the default (original factory) settings, click 'Defaults'.

Manual Color Settings:

Color Balance: The level for each color can be adjusted.

  • Move the slider bar right to darken the image, and move the slider bar left to lighten the image.

Note: The coloring of entire data to be printed can be changed by adjusting color balance as the balance of amount of each ink is changed. To change the coloring drastically, adjust it from application software. Use the printer driver only for fine adjustments.

Click to return to step 3 of the instructions above.

Intensity: The intensity for printing can be adjusted.

Print Type: The correcting method can be selected according to the data to be printed.

  • 'Auto': 'Photo' or 'Graphic' will be appropriately selected for color correction, determining the content of the image of the original.

  • 'Photo': The color correction suitable for natural images like photos can be performed. Neutral colors such as flesh color and sky blue can be created finely.

  • 'Graphic': The color correction suitable for graphs can be performed. Primary colors such as red, blue, and yellow can be created vibrantly.

  • 'None': The color correction according to the data to be printed cannot be performed.

Click to return to step 3 of the instructions above.

Brightness: Select the option favorable for the print results.

ICM (Windows color correcting function): Check 'Enable ICM (Windows Image Color Management).'

Caution: This is an advanced setting option and is not recommended to be used.

  • Adjust color balance and intensity when needed.

Note: ICM is the Windows color correcting function to bring the coloring of print results close to the images on the display by matching color among different devices. For additional information regarding the ICM settings, customers may refer to the Windows Help files and application vendor, or customers may use their support options for Windows.

Click to return to step 3 of the instructions above.

Click to return to the top of the page.
