Learn how to use the wireless direct connection method to connect your wireless devices to your PIXMA TR8520.

Solution

Follow the steps below to print or scan with wireless direct.

 You can connect up to five devices to the printer at the same time.

Change the printer setting to use wireless direct.

  1. Turn the printer on.

  2. Select the Setup icon    on the HOME screen.

  3. Select the Settings icon .

  4. Select the Device Settings icon  .

  5. Select LAN settings.

  6. Select Wireless Direct.

  7. Select Wireless Direct active/inactive.

  8. Select ON. The password confirmation screen appears.

  9. Select Yes or No.

  10. The list of Wireless Direct settings displays where you can check the items below:
  • SSID

    • The device detects the printer by the identifier (SSID).

    • This setting is specified automatically.

  • Security setting

    • This setting is specified automatically

  • Password

    • The password is required when connecting a device to the printer. However, based on the device, a password may not be required.

  • Printer's name that appears on a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device

    • To connect a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device to the printer, select the device name displayed on the device's touch screen.

  1. Select OK. The Wireless Direct mode is enabled, and the device connects to the printer wirelessly.
     

Connect the device to the printer.

  1. Enable Wi-Fi on your device's settings menu. For more information, see your device's instruction manual.

  2. Select DIRECT-XXXX-TR8500series (X represents alphanumeric characters) from list displayed on device.

     If DIRECT-XXXX-TR8500series doesn't appear on the list, wireless direct isn't enabled.

  3. Enter the password. Your device is now connected to the printer.

     You can check the password via the printer's touch screen display or the printed the network settings information sheet.

  • A password might not be required based on your device.

  • A wireless direct compatible device is set to prioritize Wi-Fi Direct. Next, the printer displays a confirmation screen which allows the device to connect to the printer.

  • Check the LCD's name is the same as your wireless communication device, and select Yes.
     

Print and scan with Wireless Direct.

 For more information on how to print or scan with your device via Wi-Fi, refer to the device's or application's instruction manual.

  • You can print or scan from your smartphone or tablet with the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY. Download it from App Store® and Google Play®.
     

Change the Wireless Direct setting.

 If you change the Wireless Direct setting of the printer, update the device's wireless router setting.

  1. Make sure printer is turned on.

  2. Select the Setup icon   on the HOME screen.

  3. Select Settings icon  .

  4. Select Device settings   .

  5. Select LAN settings.

  6. Select Wireless Direct.

  7. Select a setting item:

    Wireless direct settings.

  • Change the SSID/device name (A).
     The identifier (SSID) is the printer's name (device name) displayed on a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device.

    • Select (A).

    • Enter the identifier (SSID) (up to 32 characters).

    • Select Auto update or OK.

      • Select OK to specify the identifier (SSID).

      • Select Auto update to display the confirmation screen.

        • To update the identifier (SSID) and the password, select Yes.

        • To check the security setting and the updated identifier (SSID)/password, select Details and select Yes on the screen displayed next.

  • Change the password (B).

    • Select (B).

    • Enter the password (up to 10 characters).

    • Select Auto update or OK.

      • Select OK to specify the password.

      • Select Auto update to display the confirmation screen.

        • To update the identifier (SSID) and the password, select Yes.

        • To check the security setting and the updated identifier (SSID)/password, select Details and select Yes.

  • Change the confirmation request settings (C).

    • Select (C).

      • To display the confirmation screen when a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is connected to the printer, select Yes.

         To prevent an unauthorized access, we recommend you don't change the setting from default.

  • Check the current Wireless Direct settings (D).

    • Select (D).

      • To check the current Wireless Direct settings, select Yes.

         If you select Print details, you can print the network settings.

  1. Press the HOME button to display the home screen.
