Description

How DEP (Depth of Field) mode works.

Solution

The depth of field AE mode is for obtaining wide depth of field between a near and far subject. If is effective for group shots and landscapes. The optimum point of focus, aperture and shutter speed are set automatically to obtain the desired depth of field. For DEP, you can specify the AF points manually or with Eye Control AF

  • To use this mode, the lens focus mode switch must be set to AF

Turn the Command Dial to <DEP>

  • The AF mode will be set automatically to <ONE SHOT>

Turn the Eye Control switch to <OFF>

Select the focusing point

  • Press the button and key to select the desired focusing point
  • If automatic focusing point selection has been set, use the center focusing point to focus

Aim the selected focusing point at the nearest subject you want in focus, then press the shutter button (6sec.)

  • The in-focus indicator lights and DEP 1 is displayed
  • If two focusing points are active, focusing points will be used for depth-of-field AR

Use the same focusing point to aim at the farthest subject you want in focus and press the shutter button (6sec.)

  • The in-focus indicator lights and DEP 2 is displayed
  • You can also reverse the above two steps

Compose the picture and press the shutter button halfway to check that the shutter speed and aperture are not blinking (6sec.)

  • The point of focus is set between the two DEP points. The aperture required to achieve the desired depth of field and a suitable shutter speed are set automatically
  • If you release the shutter button DEP and the aperture will be displayed
  • The exposure setting is set when the picture is taken
