Description
If documents are frequently jamming in the feed tray while scanning, it is possible that the consumable rollers are too dirty (or worn) and need replacing.
Solution
The two rollers (feed and retard) installed in the scanner are consumable parts. The feed and retard rollers wear with scanning. If the feed and retard rollers are worn, or excessively dirty, documents may not feed correctly and paper jams and double feeds may occur. When more than 200,000 pages have been fed (total number of pagers fed by the scanner), a message prompting you to replace the rollers is displayed when the computer is started. An exchange roller kit can be purchased from your local dealer. To replace these rollers, please follow the instructions listed below.
Open the document eject tray.
Pull the OPEN lever and pull the front unit toward you.
The location of each of the consumable parts is shown below.
Open the feed roller cover.
Remove the feed roller.
Install the new feed roller.
Close the feed roller cover.
Open the retard roller cover.
Pull the left lever that secures the retard roller to the scanner, and remove the roller.
Install the new retard roller by inserting the right side first.
Push the left side of the retard roller to secure it to the scanner.
Close the retard roller cover.
When closing the front unit, make sure that it is completely closed by gently pressing the left and right until you hear a click.
