The following two types of password can be set.

• Password for opening the PDF file
• Permissions password for editing or printing the PDF file

 Important

• You can create or edit up to 99 pages of a PDF file at one time.
• You will not be able to open or edit the PDF file if you forget the password. It is recommended that you write down the passwords and keep them in a safe place for future reference.
• Password-protected PDF files cannot be opened in applications that do not support security settings for PDF files.
• Even if a permissions password is set for a PDF file, the restricted commands (print, edit, etc.) may differ from those in My Image Garden depending on your application.

• Setting passwords from the Create/Edit PDF File view is used as an example in the following descriptions.

1. Select the PDF file(s) for which you want to set a password or the image(s) from which you want to create (a) password-protected PDF file(s).

   • Skip ahead to Step 4 when operating in the Scan view.
      

2. Click Create/Edit PDF File at the bottom of the screen.

   The view switches to Create/Edit PDF File.
    

   
    

3. Edit the pages as required.
    

4. Click Save or Save All.

   The Save dialog box appears.
    

5. Select the Set up password security checkbox.
    

   
    

   The Password Security Settings dialog box appears.

   
    Note

   • You can also display the Password Security Settings dialog box by clicking Settings..., then selecting Password-protected for Security in the File Settings dialog box.
      
   • When the Save dialog box is displayed from the Scan view, Set up password security does not appear. Select PDF in Data Format, then click Settings.... Select Password-protected for Security in the PDF Settings dialog box to display the Password Security Settings dialog box.
      

6. Select the Require a password to open the document or Restrict editing and printing of the document, and require a password to change the security settings checkbox, then enter the password you want to set.
    

   

   
    Important

   • Enter a password of up to 32 single-byte alphanumeric characters. Passwords are case sensitive.

   
    Note

   • To set both Document Open Password and Permissions Password, select both checkboxes and specify a different password for each.
      

7. Click OK.

   The Confirm Document Open Password dialog box or Confirm Permissions Password dialog box appears.

8. Enter the set password, then click OK.

   The Save dialog box reappears.

   
    Note

   • If the password was set from the PDF Settings dialog box, the PDF Settings dialog box reappears. When you click OK, the Save dialog box reappears.
      

9. Click Save.

   The PDF file(s) is (are) saved, and the Create/Edit PDF File view reappears.

   
    Important

   • When you click Cancel, all settings made in the Password Security Settings dialog box will be deleted.

   
    Note

   • The Scan view reappears when operating in the Scan view.
      

10. Click Close.

    When Document Open Password is set, the thumbnail of the saved PDF file appears as a lock mark.

    • When only Permissions Password is set, it appears as a standard thumbnail.

Important

• Passwords are deleted once the file is edited. Reset the passwords when saving edited files.
